If its no good hopefully ash will have one of his lightweight kits available soon. Just all trail and error for the time being till we get it right. Doesnt look like im going to hear anything from work about moving away for a while so may as well finish what I have started to see what happens and figures I end up with.
Sick of people banging on about this being pointless and was only done on the BTCC cars because of regulations but its all down to what I want at the end of the day and having something different to anyone else. Yes I am aiming for the same power as some people are making on jenveys but dont see why I cant make them figures with what I have. Just look forward to proving all them people wrong Big grin

Good start to the day! Looks like my big ends gave in on my way into work last night, lost power and engine started knocking its brains off then cut out. Managed to make it to work but not I just need to get it home at 7am! Looks now like the engine will be coming out and swapping bottom ends with my old bottom end. Bit more work to do over the weekend now.

So an update on whats been happening yesterday. Coming home from work the car cut out at a junction and wouldnt start so had the ditch the car and go get a battery as the battery had died for some reason! Car started back up on my spare battery. Went home and picked up my old block just in case it was needed and headed down to Jims 2 hours later than I wanted to.

Started around 11am, engine was out by 12 and made a start stripping everything off the engine, inlet, AUX setup, exhaust mani, box, fly & clutch.
Then came time to pull the head off. Took the head off to find oil in one of the cylinders and slight movement on one of the pistons too.

Stripped the bottom end to see what the actual problem was to find 2 big ends had score marks and one of the pistons was broke. There was my problem to the cylinder down on compression. Also found the bit of cam that had been broken off before I bought the engine sitting in the sump!

Good job I picked up my spare bottom end. Jim cleaned the surface of of the block and pistons and the surface of the head ready to go back together. New gasket and head bolts went on along with a new water pump then fitted the new exhaust cam. Cams are setup on standard timing just to get the car back up and running. Will set cam timing up later on when I come to fit inlet ect...

So end of the day yesterday the engine is back in wired up ect... just shafts, exhaust and front end to go back on really. May give the VLR a trail fit if I can be bothered today

Got down Jims this morning and got shafts and exhaust on. Also fitted new ball joints and bolts then realised on of the bolts on my solid axleI mount had snapped so had to drop the axle to get that out and replaced It with a bolt. Could do with finding a lambda.

Done that while Jim torqued down the head, next we lifted and mounted the oil cooler. Cooler is much better now as before it was hanging too low and pipes ran under the cross member.

That was the car pretty much ready to go, just the cooling system but thought I would try on the VLR and see what clearance was like for the alternator and radiator ect... looks awesome and fits perfect Cool apart from the bonnet doesnt shut Laugh my ass off had to chop the bottom skin off the bonnet and flatten the bolt holes on the inlet. Fits alot better now but still need to find another 10mm so I can close the bonnet.

Cars all up and running and seems to be running well. Not really gave it any yet, just wanted to make sure I got home in one piece.

That's one hell of an inlet! Is it fitted and running with it? Just as the photo below had standard inlet back on

Not sure whats wrong now but I was getting a bit of a misfire but sorted itself out then today I gave it some off a slip road onto the dual carriageway and all of a sudden lost a cylinder. Pulled over and turned the car off for a few seconds and restarted it and was still running on 3. Not long been home now got my tools out and pulled the coilpack cover off to get at the plugs. Started the car and now its fine again! Tried unplugging each coil separately and all coilpacks seem to be working fine, same with injectors. Would a diagnostics bring up the fault?

Chris are you using v power or normal petrol just wondering because if you're using 95 Ron and the ecus mapped for 97 could be causing you an issue?

I just what ever I can get. If the pumps sell 97ron I will use it but my 3 local garages are how do I put it, back street family ran petrol stations so I would says its 50/50 on ron 95 and 97

It's only because I've seen piston damage like that before and it was caused by detonation from running lower grade fuel than the car was mapped for. Just my 50ps worth might be worth finding out if you can what fuel grade the map was for?

I do t know anything about the map except from it was mapped for pt81s and has a 7500rpm limit. It does run better on V Power but then again I notice a difference in the girlfriends 206 gti on v power too

Just depends because if it runs too lean top end it can proper fck it. I have done exactly that damage to a piston I may be wrong though. Only way to check is get an airfuel ratio gauge and check whether it runs really lean?

V power is best. Followed closely by tescos I believe. Just don't want you to have it det again :-(.
I learnt the hard way when I dropped a valve on a 2k rebuilt engine after just 200miles
