Right, been wanting to rebuild beam so I've attempted to undo the unions under the boot floor. 1 of them came undone nice and easy, the other is a t**t. My flare spanner just isn't getting a good grip on the union so I think I'm going to leave it alone.

Is my next plan to try undo the Load Comp unit and brake lines from the calipers and just leave it attached to the car?

Reeeeaaaallly don't want to destroy/snap the union on the brake pipe that runs from the front of the car....

Decent quality vice grips and a gentle back and too motion is the answer.

Thumbs up

Quite easy to take an axle off leaving the brake lines complete did it twice the other day however its a little more tricky with a compensator. More of a 2 person job to lift the axle out the way and a pain to line up the front 4 bolts that hold the mounts to the axle. But you can just undo those 4 and leave the rest of it and the mounts on the car.

This^^

Try soaking it in something like GT85, giving a few sprays per day. After 3 or 4 days it should be workable on. Smile

Bought the spanners from Halfords yesterday. Think the fitting has been rusting a bit so one side has corroded thuuuusss the spanner not getting a perfect grip all the way round.

So will try as you lot say: drowning it in dismantling stray for a couple more days.

Having done a fair amount of axle removing and refitting. Just try what I said earlier.

Obviously if I have a customers car here, I can't wait a couple of days for penetrating fluid to work

Mini stillsons are the best for this, I got a 6" set and it has been an essential tool for rusty bolt removal

Success! Trusty mole grips on the male end and 16mm spanner on female end she cracked straight off.

Now I need to find 2 female unions so I can blank the pipes off.
