Ive been in your shoes a few times... you get that itch for a change... make the change and in my experience's always miss the Rallye!
Ive never owned a Type R, but a mate had an EP3 and another has an FN2. I preferred the EP3 from the two. It felt quicker (maybe because the newer car was more refined?) The engines sound immense in VTEC Yo... But in both cars I found the ride quality non existent... on any thing other than a totally smooth surface they crash and bang horribly. The steering feel aint much cop either.
This is when you realise how nice a well sorted Rallye is, firm but compliant. As for speed, I found the EP3 was quicker than the Rallye, albeit not by much.
I had a car and car conversions mag back in the day where they timed a EP3 CTR vs a Rallye around a track... and the Rallye just nudged it (I remember the writer saying he'd melted the Rallye's tyres and cooked his brakes in the process but loved the Rallye all the more as he felt he'd 'earned' the victory... lol)
This sums it for me, i think the Rallye is a more rewarding car, is rarer, rawer and I personally like having wind up windows etc as it is memories of a bygone era!
If you fancy a change go for it mate... you can always come back and bag yourself another Rallye!
