If you must have 4 doors, id take the focus as bmw's are boring and bland. Although tbh, id go for a impreza.________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

I think ST's are a bit bland yeah. But better imo than a BMW. As for impreza reliability, my one was probably the most reliable car ive ever owned. Petrol wise it weren't great. Only done approx 23-25mpg. Was great fun having all that grunt. Cornering wasnt as fun as my 6's but wasn't bad at all. ________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

The power delivery is very linear which I found really boring. Handling was OK but I really wouldn't say it was anything special - certainly not a patch on my old Civic Type R that I let him use and he admitted that. Oh and 24 MPG the most he's ever had out of a tank, 21 MPG being the normal. You do get a nice burble when you put your foot down and his is Orange, so I suppose that help make it little less boring, but you couldn't call one exciting to drive. ________________________________________ Cherry Red 306 HDIChampionship White Integra DC5 Type R |

Kid I work with has an ST3, really nice car for what it is. Drives great, handles well and looks nice. However, like most newer cars I have driven its all just a little bit too modern and predictable...Anyone else know what I'm talking about or am I spouting bo***cks?? I just get in and think yeah its good, but it's not 12 grand good. If I had to pay for it with real money, I would rather be 10.5k better off and have a GTi-6 or Rallye if I'm honest. Oh and 21mpg is about bang on New Astra VXR is meant to be the bo***cks and a far better car than the ST, but they are the same people that bought ST's when they got facelifted 5 years ago and raved about them too ________________________________________ Almost standard 1999 Bianca RallyeHilux InvincibleX daily 306 No.13 Carp and specialist Anglers Click here |

If fuel costs arent much of an issue then you really should consider an Impreza. A well loved, standard example should be ultra reliable. Back in the day they won several JD power surveys for reliability. Its just a case of picking the right one that hasnt been abused and incorrectly modded. Ive found they are one of the few modern-ish cars with character. You can pick up lovely WRX's with PPP for around £5k. As they are heavy on the juice most are low mileage too.________________________________________ Bianca white 306 RallyeArctic blue Clio 182 FF Alpine white 205 1.9 GTI |

Just keep an eye out for piston slap. Other than that, they are like typical farm cars. Bulletproof. ________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

Its more of a problem on the classics iirc but play on the pin between the piston and conrod. It sounds a bit like a knackered bottom. But it goes away when its warm. So never buy a scooby thats even slightly warm. If its warm when youview one, walk away or go back later. Other than that they are very reliable and parts are cheap. I got an ally rad off an ebay shop new for £60. Any other bits I needed were equally cheap too. An oil change every 6k is a good shout. Go and test drive some. They are very good cars. The only reason I sold mine was that missed the chuckability of the 6. The impreza, although good in the bends never felt quite as capable. It just showed its weight a bit. But as a quick "family" car, having owned one id say you wouldn't be disappointed. ________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |
