I have just had a engine rebuilt for me new pistons liners Ect an top end all checked and new seals ECt. I have a spark I have fuel. I turned it over a few times with the coils unplugged to get the oil pump around. It wants to start almost firing on say 1 out of 5 turns of the key

Anyone any ideas

The only thing I noticed which I haven't previously is I don't have a plug on my loom to plug in the grey sensor on the right hand side off the block il try get a picture of my old block I checked all 3 looms that I have should I have a plug for this

What engine is it for starters? Gti6s don't have liners!
Whenever you re-fit an engine and it won't run whereas it did before its usually your fault (no offence Razz). Can't think off the top of my head what the grey plug is, I'm guessing its the oil sensor at the back of the oil breather pipe?? If so don't worry about it.
Are the coils and injectors plugged in the correct order, difficult to do wrong but not impossible.
Is the engine timed up properly? All cam/crank pins line up and the bottom pulley hasn't slipped?

It could be my fault but took my time fitting it as I have spent a fortune on it. But I'm no mechanic . I had my mechanic time it all up, it has a richw bottom pulley. I'm thinking would the green temp sensor have had it?

It'll still start with a fooked green temp sensor. What does your 'mechanic' think it is? Or has he washed his hands now he's had your money?

No I'd say you have missed some earths on the gear box or have put them all together which you can't do either ! Check your earths !

No he is coming round in a bit to take a quick look. It could be the earths tho I will try that when I get back. I'm right in saying two cables which then go to the chassis. Then the negative to the battery ?

Yup they must be on separate earth points ? - battery earth separate to the other 2 ? Defo got fuel ?

Yer this one has fuel haha. Yer I have them bolted al together I do remember them been separate. Thanks for advice il let you no how I get on in a wile

Yer crank sensor was plugged in we just changed it for another one I had the car is a lot closer to starting after the swap I have a brand new one coming tomorrow. My mechanic plugged it in an couldn't seem to get a rpm reading so changing cam an crank sensor if no joy he is having it in at the garage

I sprayed icv with carb cleaner that was all. Am I right in saying it would fire up with dodgy icv but just won't idle

What's with the separating earth cables thing? Why does that cause issue?

I haven't put the drive shafts back In yet I wanted to just get the engine running I will start putting them in tomorrow night if I get time along with trying new crank and cam sensors

Fitted new cam an crank sensors still no joy so I think it's going to have to go in to the garage an have the mechanic have a look over it
Really bugging me after just spending a fortune on it
Engine rebuild with rich w head gasket an flywheel
2 New sets of wheels
Suspension.
Harnesses
Engine mounts
So just want it running now

Sounds abit silly as the richw flywheel has a pick u point but there is only one possible way it can go on isn't there my mechanic was wondering if it was out of time if that makes some kind of sense. With the crank sensor getting the signal at the wrong time
