Hi all, is there any way of knowing if a second hand head has been skimmed? Also can you get a thicker gasket for 1 that has been skimmed. I'm gonna fit some cams but dont want to touch the bottom end |

Yes, you can buy the repair gasket from Pug which is 1.4mm thick as opposed to 1.2mm which is the thickness of the standard one. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Excellent, why do people bother pocketing pistons then. Seems like a lot of extra work and cost for no reason |

Seems like a lot of extra work and cost for no reason The reason people pocket the pistons is simple, to fit anything more than very mild cams to one of these cars is difficult due to the very limited valve to piston clearance. Even relatively mild cams which according to the manufacturer will fit in an otherwise standard engine have later found to be causing the valves to "kiss" the pistons which obviously is detrimental. There is a very interesting thread on the subject Here Hope this helps! ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! My Budget track engine build thread! Cheers jeffers, I know that my head has been skimmed, I'm going for a mild cam, would you suggest a thicker gasket or pistons pocketed |

You need to know how much has been taken off the head plus how big a lift the cams have... Then you can work out what should work....________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! My Budget track engine build thread! Now appearing at a Trackday near you!! |

There is a marker on the head face that will indicate how much has been removed.________________________________________ |

It's not MLS but you do use the same torque settings. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |
