i'd steam clean it and autosol it, then put it on my "broken engine parts" shelf and admire a job well done

Just spoke to Paul at TTS and he agreed the 'charger would go back to him anyway. He's speaking to the boss about a discount but basically I've got to buy a new one and this one is scrap Sad

As a side topic, here's a question. What do you do with an old, f*cked supercharger? Can I run it from a starter motor and create a monster leaf blower? Ideas please...

You could send it to me to dissect??

Did you mention where the throttle body was positioned to TTS?

Good ideas everyone, i'm thinking I might as well pull it apart and see what's wearing. Interesting to take a look if nothing else. Sorry Allen but I fancy taking a look myself if that's it's fate Smile

I'll mention that to TTS when I call back this afternoon, it is worrying because it means there's no guarantee...yes as previously mentioned the Lynx kit is approved by Rotrex. Hmm.

Take the drive rollers off, bolt a turbine in the way aand use it as a turbocharger.

I've never had one in bits obviously but I'm very curious why they can't be prepared.

The tolerances are b**ch on the drive rollers and bearings - and I think you'd need a rig to hold them somehow as they were fitted as they have some preload, so they probably won't do it outside of the factory.

Sure it can be cheated around somehow LOL

Could strap it to my 1.4 and see how fast it goes before everything blows up Hmm

I've been looking for a suitable car with a carb that I can strap it to. A carb would just flow the "correct" amount of fuel right?

Alternatively I might just stick it on ebay for a few hundred quid, someone might buy it for a project and I won't be too far out of pocket then.

Another update. I just spoke to Rich (i think) who I believe is the owner of TTS and he was very helpful and has offered me a very good price given the circumstances. He says there have been a few failures on the Lynx kits (perhaps 5-6) and he wonders if the problem is overheating which is something they've seen in the states quite a bit. He hypothesised that the kit runs an inappropriate oil cooler and that this is causing failures. As my supercharger oil is now contaminated he said that I'd need to replace the cooler and should go for a larger one and perhaps look at adding an extra fan to keep things cool in traffic. Does anyone know the dimensions of the existing cooler?

One thing that might be advisable for existing owners is adding a temperature sensor into the system. The max inlet temperature is 80 degrees on these chargers so it might be worth wiring into the warning light.

Something else that I was asked to double check was the pulley sizes. Does anyone know the crank pulley / supercharger pulley sizes so we can double check they're not being over-revved?

I also asked about the warranty being voided if the throttle plate was installed before the 'charger. He was quite surprised by this as both the Lynx kit and some of their own Honda kits run this configuration. Apparently it's only an issue for the C15 range of 'chargers and a warranty though themselves would obviously not be voided.

Finally I feel that with some of this negative attention I should point out that he was very impressed with the Lynx kit.

Well that car should always be fine on temperature sat in traffic, its got the manual fan switch so you can keep it at whatever temp you like.

Sounds like youve recieved some very positive feedback which is goods news for all sc6 owners.

Good point. I suppose engine water/oil temp is irrelevant to charger temps then?

Yep, im now thinking about installing a bigger cooler for the charger and it's own little fan!

So 80 degrees is the max but what is the min/ideal running temp?

Yea sadly you don't really have a clue. I'm going to look into wiring up an alarm / stop light if the temperature goes about 75 degrees though obviously a larger cooler / extra fan is the solution.

I'll be sure to check the ideal temperature range when I speak to them again. Need to get pulley sizes and existing oil cooler dimensions then I can get back to them with more detail.

Give me 5 mins and I'll tell you what size cooler and charger pulley size I have on my c30-94, think my c38 charger has a bigger cooler than the c30!

Something to think about when considering large oil coolers is going to be the amount of fluid required in the circuit. At £100 a liter we don't want to go too large!
