What difference do the solids make? I've got a spare beam that I'm about to start refreshing in the next coming weeks. I'm looking at lemfoder OE jobbies. ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

Matt - If you ever decided to change to solids, you wouldn't look back. The feel and predictiveness of the rear end makes it such a nice drive. The only person who I've come across who hates them with a passion is 'aaron6' as he seems to like the unpredictability of the rear end on standard mounts. Perhaps he likes living life right on the edge. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Do they make for a harsh ride quality though? I know mine is fairly stiff but i wouldn't want to amplify that. Also is it both sets fronts and rear beam mounts that are upgradable to solid? ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

Yeah its the full set that get changed, Daveyboy makes pucker ones. They do make a slight bit more road noise but for the gain in predictability and handling its a worthwhile change, just turn the stereo 'up to eleven'________________________________________ 205 GTi Red - G939 RTU - Died!306 GTi 6 Diablo - Being resurrected! Personally, if you fit the solids to the back, you need to stiffen up the front aswell.Otherwise the car my feel unbalanced. ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. Food for thought then guys. It's fairly stiff as is and tbh the back end is extremely well behaved. Quick one as we are talking beams is it easier for me to lower the beam off the car or in situe? ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

Solids = WinMy car is limited by tyres big time now. Can pretty much turn as tight as I could give a s**t for on the roundabouts. You do get a slight "Hum" of noise in the car but is very minute and i'm a man so I don't give a s**t. That and my exhaust cancels it out ________________________________________ Ex- Phase 3 China GTi-6 T-Reg |

My current beam is getting tired now after 15 years of service. I have a good condition beam sat it my garage so i am going to refresh the beam mounts and flexi brake hoses and all the other little bits I can refresh. I want to lower it as it's set to standard height so I was wondering if it's easier to do it whilst it's on the garage floor or when it's bolted to the car? ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

And tbh, passive mounts are very predictable and correctable. Solid mounts for me made the car less fun too. Add to that the fact I firmly believe they knock out beams quicker. The initial shock from bumps that is usually partially absorbed by rubber is put directly into the beam beam and associated bearings. They very quickly killed the beam on my old blaze. (Although it was old) and on the china I had a fresh beam with new pins and bearings etc die in 14000 miles. I put some fresh passive mounts on and its all good. The car performs exceptionally well and was quick at pugfest too. I was definatly quicker on the passives than with solids whilst grinning more. Loose the mounts, just extra weight. Bolt the axle direct to to chassis. Win win ________________________________________ Clicky: click here remove the space between [url & = |

Solid mounts are one of the best things i've done. I had big problems with breaking std mounts after fitting the hydraulic handbrake. Kept on wondering why the backend was becoming so floaty on events!! Solids mounts sorted it right out and really helped it feel alot more planted. ________________________________________ Road Rally car - Manstone Ph3 GTI-6. Can anyone recommend a half decent non-gen rear mount? The ones on my HDI have started going and although I don't fancy paying pug prices I don't really fancy sticking some £10 each eBay specials on either. Not interested in solid mounts as I'm not aiming to "improve" the car in anyway, and as IIRC they're pretty dear. Iirc, I asked about the mounts a while ago. NLA are Hutchinson mounts Corteco? or something is what they supply now, and imho they look cheap. Even though sold by GSF as premium part. So this is the reason I either buy genuine, or solid. ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. I've just renewed the rear beam mounts on the Rallye (used gen Pug ones). It's noticeably smoother, quieter and more compliant. For a road car, it's just what I want. Now have a non-gen OS front beam mount for sale, with approx 400mi on it since new a month or so ago. Free to a good home for the cost of P&P. |
