I have had better Fridays let me tell you.

Today I was travelling northbound on the M1, traffic was slowing so I changed from the fast lane into the middle lane.
Car in front braked quite harshly and came to a stop, so I had to as well. Was stationary for around 5-6 seconds and took a look in my rear view mirror to see this monster of a DAF lorry coming toward me at speed, thought to myself there's no way he's going to stop, he didn't even look like he was trying.

So I braced for impact and he hit me with some force, which sent me down the road, but luckily I managed in all the chaos to slam my anchors on after the impact so I didn't hit the car in front.

But alas, my 6 is dead. My neck is f**king painful, going to the hospital tomorrow to get checked out and report the incident to the police.

The chap who ran into me pulled over and got my details, I got his work address, name, and a couple of shots of his van/REG. He literally said hardly anything (was trying to avoid admitting liability I think), asked if I was ok, got my details and left.

Had to wait an hour or so for recovery, been on the phone to the insurers and as I am third party but with business mileage I believe I am covered and it should be an open/shut case.

Majorly s**t day though :sad

















End of 6 ownership for a while for me..........

Very similar thing happened to me a few years ago. I'd stopped about 100ft from a traffic accident and switched on my hazards to warn traffic behind. Looked in the mirror to see an mpv quickly approaching the rear of my car. The impact forced me to within about 2ft of the original accident.

I have no wheels to put on in place of the clones though, well I have anthracite nimrods but they are worth more than the clones.

Bought on 60k 3 years ago, now on 161k and dead. She was a trooper of a 6.

Not sure if I will just buy it back and sell for spares/repairs if there is interest. There's a few decent mods in there worth having.

Police wernt involved, one car even drove right past me and didn't stop. Traffic officers stopped briefly though.

I am going to accident & emergency tomorrow for a checkup. Then to the police station to report the incident. Fun fun!

I would almost certainly say the guy was on his phone or something, he had a long stretch to slow down.....and he just didn't....I watched him fly toward me. Definitely pre-occupied

Glad your ok chap, there's some idiot drivers out there.

I had a pretty bad crash in November due to a silly b**ch not paying attention. You need to get yourself down the doctors and tell him a load of bo***cks, your necks killing you, your backs aching all the time, you can't sleep,etc. that's the only way to get your money back for your car and the money you've probably spent on it. I got £800 for my car and £3200 for my compensation which was a lot less than I was expecting as I had broken ribs, a punctured lung, whiplash and a bad lower back (obviously I told them my neck and back was a lot more painful than it was)

I remember sitting in hospital with tubes hanging out of the side of my chest thinking I've got 10k coming my way for this but I later found out that it's not how bad the injury is, it's how long the doctor that does your medical report thinks it will take you to recover.

With regards to buying your car back for parts I think it's 20% of the value of the car. Your insurance company will sort that out for you.

Sorry to hear this op, hope you recover quickly - but not too quickly it seems!

Re: how to react after, you did well taking driver's details and pictures. Finding a witness is invaluable in getting insurance sorted, often people will stop but obviously don't want to hang around so getting their details too can save a lot of hassle 'down the road'.

Watching those motorway patrol type tv programmes, if you call it in as having an injury due to rtc, you'll get fully assessed straight away / taken to hospital and the patrol will take details and check no foul play etc - after one collision, some witnesses had seen the batty 4x4 driver using their mobile - she denied of course & had deleted the evidence from her phone - her phone provider record proved she had been using it.

Double edged sword as bogus whiplash claims are taking up emergency services' time, keep roads closed longer and bump up our insurance premiums. My take is that if you really are suffering after a rtc - call it in and state you have an injury.

Appreciate you took the pragmatic and thoughtful of other people approach, hope you get it all sorted with minimal hassle.
