Am about to do my timing belt, but when I come to time it up, the bottom pulley doesnt line up. My questions is can I pin the camshafts up , then remove the belt and time the bottom up? I am in process of getting another pulley but need me car on road tonight. Cheers mike |

I my small knowledge of cam belts etc, I'm pretty sure it won't time up every cycle of the engine. I'm someone will confirm. ________________________________________ 98 onyx black 306 Rallye53 Nissan Primastar silver (work horse) 58 black Volvo c30 sport |

Sounds like your bottom pulley has slipped. DO NOT pin up the cams then time the bottom end up believe me it will end in tears! Personally I would source a known good pulley, then pin everything up and change the belt, I wouldn't do the belt without being able to pin everything just my 2p's worth! ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! Fetch it up to me mate. Or once you have the new pulley just take old one off and fit new one schimples ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. If the cams are pinned when you remove it all then yes a new pulley should theoretically line up. When pinned all the pistons are half way up/down the cylinders so even if you have to move it slightly it won't be a problem.________________________________________ Ryan |

No and no. An you don't need to use the crank pulley to time up the bottom end anyway. If your doing it properly then lock the flywheel through the 8mm hole behind the starter motor then disregard what the crank pulley says anyway. ________________________________________ Black power baby! You can time it up without the pulley, but if your pulley has slipped you need a new one anyway If it comes apart totally it will prob take your cambelt out and knacker your engine ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |

I could be completely wrong here but I was under the impression our cars didn't have the 8mm hole to time up through the flywheel?? ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! You are completely wrong. I can send you a lovely picture of a 6 engine I have the head off at work currently with a proper pug locking tool through said hole locking the flywheel as we speak lol. All pug engines to my knowledge have this petrol and diesel. It's a pain to get to on a 6 engine others are easier. ________________________________________ Black power baby! MikeThe simplest way is, remove your old pulley, fit your alloy one, then rotate till you can line up and lock the cam pulleys and the 8mm hole in bottom pulley is at about 11 o'clock ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. Lol the problem comes when you fit a lightened flywheel from Rich W like I have as there's no hole in the flywheel to lock with! ________________________________________ Black power baby! You will need the slacken the cam pulleys once you have pinned the cams up. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

I have uploaded video on youtube , but how do I get the link to put it on here? I think I might have found the fault, as I pulled the coil plug off one by one and one plug didnt change note. Have swopped coil pack over so will see how it goes. The only thing I have noticed now is, it is popping a lot more than before is this normal? |

No,popping could suggest the timing is out Should run exactly the same as it did before you changed belt ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |
