Hello,

2 questions really-

1. How do you know if a cat is "genuine?"

2. If its not, how much are they worth scrap?

(I am not going to the hassle of smashing up and melting my cat to get a gram of platinum either, before one of you suggests it...Dangti6 Laugh)

If it's not genuine, it's worth the same as any other mixed iron scrap - SweetFA

genuine have ECIA on them, which is a subsidiary of the psa group, they tend to be rather larger than any aftermarket unit I have ever seen, pipework and the core itself.

if it is good I would be loathe to scrap it given how poor aftermarket ones are, even if they need the exit pipe repairing.

I would have said between £60 and £80 depending on the merchant. Yes

Nah we never get that much for them down here really a good one is worth £50 tops most £30ish. Pattern ones have f**k all platinum in really. Worth a tenner at best. Put up a pi and we'll tell u if its genuine. Some just say PSA on the bottom with a load of numbers etc or what welsh boy said Thumbs up

How would a scrap man tell if its genuine or not, when I tok one, ages ago, they just measured it, may of been the inside they measured, but they then payed on the size of it, think they have me £40, it was from a cavalier td.

1. Ask question on here and expect to get ribbed for not knowing a gen cat. FFS if something looks flimsy and made out of two day old dried cum it's probably pattern part.

2. Easily £80. Put it on Ebay if gen for PM offers on a free listing weekend. I made £80 after costs for a cat that sounded like a Muller Fruit Corner.

I have no Idea what a genuine cat looks like, Had a gti-6 for 5 years with multiple exhaust changes. My pattern cat did its job (well passing MOT's) only reason I got rid of it was I found a decat pipe.

Aftermarket.

Some of you clearly don't know your cats.

I've sold plenty of £150 cats and a couple of £200's

lend them to me and ill make you a sweet platinum medallion.

on that note......i got a lump of.......something metalic from my cat. 1.3g and its about the size of a bb. i have no idea what exact metal or combination of metals it is.

i think that was a cheap aftermarket cat though, would be interesting to see what i got from an older oem cat.
