im starting got understand why a lot of people regard roland as they do.

if i can take your mom on top of me roland im sure i can take a 306.

one-uppety flippancy aside i get your points about slippage......luckily my axle stands got improved (by myself) with some rubber matting stuck to the resting points.

i always chuck a few spare tyres under my car aswell as the jack n axlee stands for safety.

thanks for the replies guys

So you came on here opened a thread asking about jacking points safety, got warned not to several times, only to still consider doing it anyway, why even bother asking people's advice if you allready knew better?

It's the bits of 'rubber' DIY'd onto the resting point of the stands which bothers me, I mean if they needed rubber surely the manufacturer would have put it there. Yes

Jimmy, there are a LOT of people here who know exactly what they're doing with these cars, sometimes it's best to listen to their advice because generally most are spot on. Thumbs up

    LOL

I think it's more a case of using the right equipment. He said he puts wheels and things under the car as a secondary safety, however I think if you put the stands in the correct places to start with those other alternatives wouldn't be needed.

    Slippage isn't the only risk.
If those loops were designed for strapping the vehicle to stop it rolling on the transporter, then they weren't deliberately designed to take the weight of the vehicle.

They could well be strong enough, but I wouldn't risk my life on a welded metal hoop that wasn't meant to hold the weight in the first place, especially when there are other options that aren't particularly more difficult.

Your car, your life, do what you want I guess.

sorry if ive offended, its never my intention. i do take the advice on here as golden most the time.

im just hesitant about wresting it on the subframe.......
and this explantion is once again going to offer me up for a million and one p**s takes. but here goes

when my 1.4 306's wheel fell off and it landed on this hoop....it also partially landed on the brake disc and subframe. the subframe bent. the hoop didnt. now this in itself didnt just convince me of its strength but more my subframes weakness.

as my quick free fix (after a new breakdisc and wheel) was to jack the car up and lower the unbent side of the subframe onto a pile of bricks till they matched.

i think my problem (at least i admit it Smile ) is all my cars have been phase ones and im really never sure what to trust as theyve all been pretty rusty.

i figure using either point i have to put something extra underneath if they fail... but id rather the nie on useless ubend breaks/bends or deforms before the subframe does.

    sorry for wasting your time....again

To be fair Jimmy, the subframes on these are fairly strong but they're not designed to be crashed into the ground at speed.

The reason the 'hoop' probably sustained little to no damage is because it's located higher up than the subframe and the subframe took the main brunt as it hit first along with the brake disc.

Seriously, using those hoops is a no-go, either use the chassis rails (providing they're not visually rusty) or the subframe itself. Even the sill jacking points would be better for the stands than the hoops, that's just asking for trouble. Yes
