Has a corner missing but was previously held on with an alternative fixing point.

Curiously does this align so you can still undo sump plug to drop oil when you need to or does it need to be removed to do that?

Im 99% certain it doesnt. Given that the original reason mine was removed was for an oil change i believe.
You would most likely need to remove it for the filter anyway.
Unless your car is charged and you therefore live a pimp life.

I've got one on my Rallye, definitely need to remove it for oil service, but it only takes 2 mins to remove it so it adds an insignificant amount of time to an oil change.

    Mine has one fitted. Yes

I believe the 'hatches' are for cooling of some description, I'm sure I read it somewhere before. I think the long angled one is designed to let hot air from the sump area dissipate underneath the car in a more controlled fashion than if it wasn't installed.

But yes, as already stated it needs removing to change the engine oil.

My HDi has one and I have a spare in the garden I think off a Xsara I was going to cut up for the Ratlye.

The 'fin' will be designed to draw warm air out off the sump airspace. The other is for gearbox cooling which will be turbulent flow regardless due to the nature of the casing.
