my old gti was as quick as my firends 330 bmw and as good if not better round the corners.top speed was lacking in comparison but how often do you find yourself wanting to be doing more that 120ish anyways. id say phase and condition have a lot to play in peoples opinion of the 6. most have been molested and driven/crashed like tossers by boy racers. hence the genral bad rep. once you get past that and actually have a go in one (that isnt nailed) you start to get why its such a fun little car to have. ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

Woah... i feel like i have walked into the middle of something here...Well.. for those that are interested.. following an oil flush and change and new oil filter.. (i don't think that the oil filter on there was quite right)... anyways.. I said to my mate.. "Well, that new oil is gonna make all the difference in the world.. like a new car i bet.." now i knew that in reality it wasn't going to do diddly squat... BUT i swear to god.. for less than a mile i had some whitish blue smoke under a bit of load.. and i was gentle for the next few miles.... but as i gave it more and more beans over the next day or so.... I swear to god that it genuinely feels a lot more sprightly.. sounds a bit throatier too.. I am going to swap the lamba though.. she does smell of petrol a bit and the mileage is not great.. |

Cleaned your ICV yet?Glad it's starting to feel better...perhaps it just needs a good servicing of everything and the effect of all those things adds up rather than it actually having any serious problem. A petrol smell while driving can also be the fuel lines in the engine bay. The green and white cubes that make a 90deg. joint in the fuel lines can let vapour out. You can get new ones, I managed to sort the faint smell of petrol by pressing them in properly and wiggling the fuel lines to make sure they were on right. We did clean the ICV which has helped massively.. no dodgy idle anymore and the revs don't drop below the 8/900 mark even if I knock it out of gear and let the rev counter drop right down at a T-junction or something.I am hoping that your right Retro.. lots of little things all adding up.. So far we have cleaned teh icv, new K&N filter, new oil filter, new sparks, new rad, complete flush of the oil and topped up to the correct levels (No longer drowning the throttle bodies!).... and she is definitely feeling better.. still a bit disappointing off the mark.. but sooo much better than she was a week or 2 ago, pulling stronger and much more lively. Just to rub salt in the wound... I got the Zed out of the garage today as I had to get some camping gear out... I couldn't resist having a little blast round the ring road... s**t MAN!! Since I hardly drive her these days, I just forget how feisty she really is... When those turbos spool up.. it's like going into hyperspace! |

Nice.. so lots of locals then I am off down to Devon for the week with the other half, but have a few days off after the Bank holiday monday..
