i might just be used to the phase 3 xsi here........

but when i go round corners in my 306 etc the fuel gauge likes to vary upto a quarter tank of needle movement.

is this normal? i remeber it being kinda like this in my other phase one but nowhere near as much varyance.

thanks

jim

You need a new fuel sender. There is a built in resistance on the float arm so it can be submerged under the fuel for a while to take into account corners and bumps etc. I had it on my old 106 and the arm lost all its resistance so even used to move up and down if you pulled up hard and the fuel splashed about in the tank lol.

Mine is exactly the same, but its not the sensor at fault; if the tank is below 1/4 full it sometimes cuts out as well. Big grin

i see.... so its a combination of placebo effect from coming from a phase 3 baffled tank 306 to my phase 1 unbaffled tank.

and my float arm resistance being poop. probably the second more so.

i noticed my fuel light was cutting out on the first day of usuage like your 24seven but it seeme to of stopped now, being sat for a while hasnt helped it.

dont suppose i can swap them over? from a phase 3 xsi into my phase 1 gti? i think i remember hearing theres differences between the two?

When I met Farmer one time he was about to put a P3 fuel tank into a P1 and he seemed to know what he was doing, can't be sure it ever worked though.

I'll admit though Jimmy I'm a bit disappointed you're going with the easy option of changing the tank and not instead creating some kind of nuclear-powered anti-innertia device. I was anticipating a build thread.

Or maybe mount the tank on some kind of gimbal system so that whatever direction g-force affects the tank from it will effectively stay level, +1 on being slightly let down by Jimmy.

Drop the tank down and add some spring fixings.

that is a badass pool table.

but still, if i can swap the sender/pump over rather than the whole tank id rather do that. will they swap or will i be fuel tanking it ?

Sender won't help, it's the tank.

Use a dipstick down the filler neck to gauge how much fuel is left Smile

Or just fill the tank with foam.

im not to bothered about it being bafflesless..... the problem wasnt anywhere near as bad in my other phase 1.

as said by niall i think the resistance in my float arm has gone. hence me asking if i can pikey a replacement unit from my phase 3 xsi.

Don't buy the cheapo stuff, it gets broken down by petrol in a short time and plays havoc with fuel pumps and filters.

What makes me laugh is the 1.4 fuel pump has baffles in the mouting caddy, but the phase 1 xu pumps don't. Not sure what pug were smoking that day.
