Yes that's normal so unfortunately you still do need to declare them.

No loophole, no lube.

    Answer to OP's question:

    Yes.

    The utterly pointless "counterpart licence".

Way back in the 20th century, someone invented this thing called the computer, which you can store information on. That is why we (supposedly) don't need stuff written on paper any more.

If a copper stops you, he or she can call up the station, and get someone to extract particulars from this thing called a "database". Or these days surely they could access it directly with a thing called a "data connection". So you shouldn't need to carry it around written on paper on the pointless counterpart for them to look at.

Just to open up a can of worms, technically it is a legal requirement to carry it I.e it is an offence not to produce it when asked but obviously you can produce it within 7 days and then no further action etc. I expect this thread will become another one where members frantically search Google to prove themselves right LOL

I just carry my card. More chance of loosing the counterpart never been asked to show them the counterpart at the roadside as they just Do a personel check.

Does that mean you should carry your v5 insurance and mot cert?

Legally you should carry your paper counterpart but ive never met anyone who does. Its just not practical and worst case is you will get a 7 day producer. I have two cars so which do i keep mine in? I sure as hell arent keeping a bit of A4 paper in my wallet!

As said you've got 7 days to produce, so it's hardly an issue should you not be carrying it.

For this exact reason I use a bumbag. I can carry a folio of documents should they be required.

so all of this is just reinforcing my point - you have a plastic card that fits nicely in your wallet, but the "other part" of the licence is an A4 piece of paper that in no way fits easily in your wallet, and will fall to bits relatively quickly if you try. And they can actually check up on you on the computer thingy in 7 minutes never mind 7 days so why do they need to make you produce yourself with your silly piece of A4 paper at a police station. It's laughable, it really is.

A driver licence counterpart is just like a broken pencil: they are both totally pointless.
