I did my own. Used a thin cutting disc to go most the way through then 3 hacksaw blades together to finish. Left about 10mm holding it on and pushed it down 'til if met and had it welded up. Made a suprising difference to the final angle.

I'm thinking of heating the end flange (downpipe side) with oxy/acety and teeking it downwards, surely this would get the same result and you wouldn't get a possible build up of weld on the inside pipes by welding large gaps??

naah it wont work down there, as its the pipes that hit the bulkhead seam not the flange.

you wont get large gaps as you bend the manifold to close them, and you can always get a die grinder in there to dress the welds down if they are a bit messy

Arh right! I presumed the downpipe flange would be the problem and not the pipes, doing the conversion this weekend so will cut the pipes as said..

    cheers everyone.......

The flange is the problem - hence cutting the pipes to aim it down a touch!

I just used a thin cutting disc (what, 1.5mm probably? - whatever the thin ones you get are) and then when the grinder bottomed out I continued with the hacksaw blades as mentioned which ended up with the same thickness.

You don't want to take too much and have gaps. As Mei says, when you close the gap (it will NOT bend) it should meet well.

I was lucky that my thickness of cut was enough to be bang on. I took it to my friendly fabrication place and simply said "Push it until the gap closes and then weld it up there".

    Ta da:

I use 1mm discs at work but you can get different thickness blades ? 3 hacksaw blades must be a good 2mm if not 3mm ?

on mine I did what dan did - i used a .5mm slitting disc to trim right the way through 95% of the way, then used a 2mm grinding disc to go half way through it again. angled it up with pressure and welded it shut. in the bulkhead I've now got a 10mm clearance which is just right

s**t yeah I always keep forgettjng that lol, its only T 304 stainless which is why it discolours making you think its mild steel lol.

I would.only need the correct type of wire to weld it, is ss harder to weld than mild ?

Technique is pretty much identical, it's the shielding gas that varies. Most just use the 5% argon/co2 mix though. Other better gasses are available but for the amount your gonna use its not worth investing in a bottle.
