Hence the low number of cars still registered on the road. surprisingly clean and comfy seats i have to say though, a common fault with the 405 so i've learned, is that the roof lining sags. my plan is to get a new one custom made and fitted ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. Good to see you getting on with this now Andy. I remember my dad test driving an immaculate cherry red 405 mi16 when I was a lad. He decided not to buy it and bought an estate 405 1.9 instead despite how much I nagged him to buy the mi16 lol. There was a white very early 4x4 version of one of these on eBay a few weeks ago. Must be rare as rocking horse s**t now but it looked a heap and he wanted silly money for how much work it needed IMO. ________________________________________ Black power baby! i'm off to berlin tomorrow, so i thought i'd update this thread.while the gearbox was out, i thought i may aswell fit new fork bushes and input shaft oil seal. made a custom end for my slide hammer, so i could pull the locking pin out of the top of the fork. had to thread the 'end' with 7mm tap, and with a few knocks, came out easy new oil seal fitted and bottom fork bush all back together gearbox back in. have fitted new driveshaft seals aswell. i found it easier to bench press the gearbox up and in. i also fitted a new gearbox mount i knew the top engine mount was knackered, so decided to change that aswell old vs new no issues with cracking of the chassis new mount and side buffers fitted. i may 'shim out' the side buffers slightly. just depends how much movement i have. next job was to replace worn lower fork bush and mounting bush in alloy bracket nice new bushes. i have fitted a vibratechnics bush to the alloy housing another job i decided to do was fit a more modern and slimline starter motor. notice that the large starter has blade connector, but slimline starter doesn't. i didn't want to hack the starter wire, so i went for a more simple solution. next job, was to refresh the steering rack with some new parts. all stripped down still in the process of rebuilding the rack, and putting a bit of paint on the pipework. also need to make a clamp to keep the return pipes secure, as the part i would like is NLA. that's it for now. although, i have taken delivery of new valeo radiator at a bargain price!, also got my new bilstein struts and a pair of eibachs. next week i hope to have subframe, arb and wishbones back from powdercoating. but i'd like to get the cambelt, waterpump, and clutch cable changed before i refit ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE.
