I have a rattling noise, can't immediately see what the problem is. Sounds like a plastic type noise, doesn't sound like metal on metal. Where and what should I be looking for? Thanks in advance forum friends |

Heat shield that covers the base of the gear stick. I snapped a stud on mine a few weeks back and now it sounds exactly like this! |

Does the gearstick feel as normal, or loose etc?Lift the gaitor up and have a look at base is prob easiest place to start But it's prob one of your exhaust heat sheilds imo there are two which overlap above the cat protecting the base of gearstick ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |

Rikky did you just get rid of the heat shield? It's obviously there for a reason but want to know if you had any bad effects with out it |

Another vote for the heatshield Carl, start looking underneath first. I can't imagine you're going to find anything wrong inside the car unless the gear stick feels different from normal in any way.________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

It's def gear stick related, if I put my hand on it whilst its making the racket it goes away. And it's a constant noise that gets louder with speed. I know what the heat shield sounds like, I have that noise too |

Take the gearstick out and look for signs of wear and contact. If that doesn't reveal anything obvious, break it for spares. ________________________________________ |

Then I would imagine the actual gear stick base is worn or loose then if you can make the noise go away just by adding pressure on the stick itself.________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

May just be loose fixings to the stick. Get dismantling and update us with pictures ASAP.________________________________________ |

I have same noise as this. It also goes away when a wee bit of pressure is applied to the stick. I initially thought it was the miles linkages but I think it's actually a bush thing underneath. Can't hear it as much since the car got stripped. All the other racket drowns it out now________________________________________ Phase 2 Blaze GTi6PS3 - Black Ops 2 Engine crane for hire Renfrewshire |

Its the plastic ball around the gearstick, take the gearstick out, grease the ball and the noise will go away,I.E. grease your ball ________________________________________ Team Supercharged Gti-6™ |

davedgti6 wrote: Its the plastic ball around the gearstick, take the gearstick out, grease the ball and the noise will go away, I.E. grease your ball I would advise against this because you will end up with a floppy gearstick. The grease peugeot use is quite specialised for this and gives a certain resistance. Probably not related but useful info ... The gearstick connects into a long gear lever with a hole in it for the rubber gear selector lever to engage. Inside these holes should be a rubber sleeve. Over time this wears out and I suspect if anyone can not get 2nd gear easily this is the cause. Problem is peugeot do not make this part anymore but there is a small company that makes to order. I would recommend greasing just the base pivot ... sometimes the spring washers partly break and they can cause a noise. Or one of the nylon bushes in the geat lever base could be broken. |
