Maybe it was running on 3 cylinders during the run?

Wouldnt that affect fuelling though?

Oh It was certainly not running on 3 lol! You would be able to tell straight away.

A session or a power run is usually upwards of 50 quid, and they do 4 or 5 runs to get a stable figure.

3 cylinders? Laugh my ass off not a f**king chance!

As said before this all got out of hand I'd say its a compression issue. The car has already had HG problems so I wouldn't be surprised and IIRC only 8 of the 16 valves were replaced. The valves only need to be bent a very tiny bit to cause issues.

So little bent infact you wouldn't even see it for looking.

In which case surely it would be tapping? Because when the valves are not true they tap when not seating true and square in there seats........

I'd try a leak down test instead of a comp test

Either way its a pile of s**t and really rather boringly familiar when buying used performance cars!

A top end rebuild is likely to cost a fortune, and will just lead me to sell as seen, I really cant be bothered to try and cover up other peoples shoddy work and maintenance. Why people cant just be honest.

I will have wasted hundreds of pounds over what should have been the actual cost of this car which as usual superficially looks great.

Never again.

And that will be the end of my involvement.

I can tell you a full leak down and compression test was done on it when head was rebuilt and all valves were assessed. This might turn out to be rather embaressing if its not a timing issue and is a fuelling issue but I can assure you I spent nearly a grand sorting the head out and it ran perfectly in my ownership afterwards.

I am not having a poke at people fella, its just very frustarting to get sold down the river as I am sure you can understand.

My query would be this? You bought the car with a belt done but with a fault yes? You replaced 8 valves, why not the other 8?

This suggests the belt broke? Not the headgasket issue you were talking about, aswell! (jeez what a hellish motor)

So can I take it that in the past few years this car has had a headgasket failure and a cambelt failure!

IN which case I have been well truly done!! And is there any way I could know if you replaced or repaired the head?

Obviously when you sold it on these issues were not apparent, Tom would say the same to me as a seller. But if you could let me know honestly I would appreciate it as it might shed light on whats happened.

Also, why on earth was that huge ally rad fitted?

If some muppet did the hg and got the timing wrong then 8 bent valves is perfectly possible

I don't know what radiator is fitted from when it was here but can you take a picture of it, most are nissens radiator's, these are just direct replacements.

Its a nissen one yes, but the cap is a bit naff so will replace that. But Iw as a litlte concerned to see it was only half full, is this normal? It being such a large rad.

Not going to do anyhting else until stan takes a look next week. Then we can move from there and see what that brings up.

the reservoir is separate to the rad other than the connection at the bottom, it is no indication of the level of coolant in the rad Thumbs up.

proper level is around half to 2/3s IIRC.

6 has the largest rad of all 306's regardless of a/c or not IIRC, should see a Turbo diesel 605 aircon rad, that is larger Big grin
