Whichever your preferred mapper recommends is usually the way to go. For instance Dave Walker won't do anything other than Emerald (it's his ECU though) whereas lots of guys don't like Emerald much. Most are more than happy to work with Omex or DTA, DTA has a very good reputation and is considered by many to be superior to Omex, depending which model of ECU you buy. If you don't need lots of unnecessary frills like anti-lag and flat shift you can get by with the base model from most manufacturers. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. As above, find a mapper you want to use and take their advice. You really want to be using the brand they prefer the software behind.I use an entry DTA S40 Pro. Still has many features I can't make use of in my 205. ________________________________________ |

You can use the standard ECU, the drawback is that there seems to be only one place in the UK that's able to map the standard ECU (well there will be others that claim they can, but none with Wayne's proven track record) and that's Chip Wizards in Rotherham. I haven't looked where you are based but for many he's a trip to far. The other drawback with mapping the standard ECU is that you are pretty much locked into going back to Wayne for every modification you do that entails a map tweak (updating cams a few months after fitting bodies perhaps) so think carefully about what your future plans will be and do the lot at the same time.Last I heard a Chip Wizards map was £400 and you need to budget for fuel and travel expenses too. Thsts if you can wait for Wayne to fit you in as his waiting list is usually pretty long. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. i'm looking to down the tuned n/a route, for me to travel from Edinburgh to Waynes and back plus how ever much fuel the car will consume on the dyno, i'd be looking at a couple of hundred quid plus the actual mapping costs of 400, then as daveyboy says, you would have to go back to wayne for future map revisions. You may as well go Omex, DTA or something. |
