That's an epic build, shame it had to end in a facepalm.

Nice. Pity about the off.

I love these cars and had a few quattros of this era - nothing as exotic as a SWB Sport though. Most of them were non-turbo square shape Coupe quattros and an early 5-cyl 80 quattro saloon, but I did have a 1985 wide arch turbo Coupe, what people call the "Ur-quattro". Expensive to run even though it was a superb example that previous owners had spent a mint on, good job I was single. I went back to the non-turbo cars as they were cheaper to run but almost as much fun.

Main thing about Audis of this era now is some parts are very difficult to find, Audi lost interest in them in the middle of last decade sadly. Due to relatively small numbers made (11,000 Ur-quattros over a 10 year period) there is not the support base there is for the Porsche 911 for example, or even the MGB.

What do you think he'd do, get webuyanycar.com round? Give it to the local scrappy? Spares or repair?

Well he built the last one from a shell and he looks quite handy - and if he's into those cars he's probably got a couple of quid. Start again I'd say.

Just goes to show, great engineering skills don't necessarily translate into great driving skills.

But fair, I mean, you can't question the quality of the build, but what he has done is replicate a group B monster, but his surname isn't Makkinen or Rohrl, so it's hardly suprising that it bit him.

True enough, could've happened to anyone though. Unlucky to come off the track and onto the soft stuff.

I'm saying somebody with more control would've stayed on the tarmac, I for one know that coming off tarmac and going sideways at speed into a ploughed field is likely to result in the world going upside down.
I wonder what cars he has had leading up to this one?

The thing seemed to have some seriously hilarious understeer that wasn't helping either. But yes, kinda daft to fall off the end of a runway when there's about 100' of width to play with....

^^^ This, I don't know if the torque can be split for a more rearwards distribution of power, but it certainly looked a bit of a dog to steer.

Don't think that was a bias problem, shouldn't be an issue really with that amount of power, even if it was split a straight 50:50

Either a differential issue (Not locking correctly) or a more fundamental problem with the suspension geo/rates, the damn thing looked like steering an oil tanker, it should be able to spin in it's own length.

Mayhaps, but given the amount he's moved the engine/rads, etc, back by, it really shouldn't be cornering like there's a plough on the back.
Hell, even the 4wd buggies with no centre diff (i.e - permanent 50:50), high CoG and mud/snow tyres on don't understeer like that:

Beautiful build though, when I read it crashed after all that effort I was sat watching the video and kept pre-emptively wincing LOL

It so looked like it was going to wipe out first the industrial unit, then the EVO!

Even that looked like it had a tendency towards power understeer, and that it was only overcome by throwing the weight around while booting it to get the rear end moving.

's already settled on the springs before he hits the power if you watch, the only thing he does is hit the brake at the same time to hold the front wheel to keep the turning radius down, there's not exactly much room to throw it about there LOL

It does understeer a bit on tarmac though as the extra grip lifts the front way too high, especially with the ride height he's got it at at the minute, not as bad as the Audi though Thumbs up
