Is this the part that's broken Carl?

bigger pic,

Pic of the rollers,

With these two parts would it be possible to repair the charger yourself?

Congrats on new arrival by the way Smile

Hi Dave, long time no hear, yes those are the bits I need, I also need the front and rear bearings and seals. I will take a look at your link.

Oh yes, little man is great, I never thought I would be doing the nappy thing all again but I am loving it, the lack of sleep, not so much.

I take it you are all ok and the high boost is still making you smile?

Carl

Yep, I think the max input shaft speed of the Rotrex is around 10,000rpm before it gets unstable, obviously it gets multiplied inside the charger and has a compressor speed maxing out around the 120,000rpm as Carl rightly says.

Well I spoke to tts regards this charger and although well out of warranty I got a very discounted new unit, happy with that result.

Seems this one may become an ornament

Because you can fit a turbo for more efficiency?
Because throttle response is better with a blow through if you can sort out control for dumping the boost and the extra cooling need?

Because I'm fitting a draw through supercharger right now on a race car?

Take yer pick. Given most race cars with turbo's/superchargers have to run restrictors, technically they're mainly draw through anyway....

what strikes me in the modern motor industry is that a supercharged car is very rare as opposed to a turbo charged car is ten a penny, i wonder why that is??

Turbo chargers are easier to meet emissions regs. Turbos also use less fuel for similar mpg.

I now drive a turboed Megane and the power delivery on a supercharged car is like standard but more power, turbocharged is more peaky in the delivery and you notice the lag.

for a retrofit, I think supercharged is the way forward.

Turbo's are more efficient and easier to package, plus they quieten the exhaust so you can afford to loose a silencer.
Most of which aren't an issue or priority for a retrofit.

£1485+vat for a new unit.

I have had one other previous failure and that was due to damage, they seem very reliable otherwise, if you search the net there are not that many failures reported. I really don't know what happened to this one, all the oil circuit is fine and the fluid is still where it should be.

I think a clean out of the fluid circuit and fresh oil will be the route I take.

Carl

Yep, the traction fluid should be changed every 50k or 2 years. Yes

I've just changed mine along with the filter seeing as the car is coming back on the road now.
