I was s**tting myself when I first got my 6 and it started to get to 105 in traffic, I used to turn it off because I thought it was going to pop. Checked the forum and it seems they love to run hot!________________________________________ 205 GTi Red - G939 RTU - Died!306 GTi 6 Diablo - Being resurrected! They do run hot but if your fans are working properly they shouldn't really ever get to 110 degrees. Both fans should kick in at 95 degrees at slow speed and should cool the engine down.Worth checking the coolant level too and topping up if needed. Even if your fans kick in at 95 as they should it won't cool the engine if your coolant is low. Also check your radiator for leaks ________________________________________ ''Oh, it does handle like a golf!'' Why drive a Golf....when you can drive a GTi-6? |

Stat opens at 88deg i think, both fans should come on slow speed at 97deg then both high speed at 107deg.________________________________________ cherry p1.....SOLD (regreting this)blaze p2.....why did i buy this SOLD Black p3 |

Thermostat is an 83 degrees one. Both fans should come on at 97c at half speed and then full speed at 107c. If your fans aren't coming on until the later setting then your low speed isn't working. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Well I know its there for a reason I was just wondering if I would be damaging anything while its not working, does any one know why slow speed stops working ? Is it the actual fan or a relay ? ________________________________________ New owner of a Moonstone 6 ! |

Slow speed operation of fans are wired in series so it could be any part of the circuit. Usually one of the fans themselves or the Bitron unit are most common. As for it being bad, Peugeot set the fans up so that the engine would start to be cooled when the coolant temp reached 97c. They added the secondary function as an emergency back up to stop the HG being cooked in case of an issue with the fan system. Let's put it this way, if you were jumping out of a plane and had a parachute and a reserve parachute in your rucksack... You discovered the main chute didn't work, how many times would you jump out knowing you're only relying on the reserve? ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

What you need is 2 slim line fans one that works as normal kicks in about 97 but also activate off the cars ac button at high speed to keep the temps right down |

Yeah I know that got the fan switch mounted in the rad by top hose So its just single speed on the rallye? ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |

I think I'm right in saying if you unplug the temp sensor on the thermostat housing (the brown one) the fans should kick in. They should start at low speed - if that works, before going to high speed soon after.Had a problem with the fans on one car, never sorted it because I took the engine out, but the problem was one of the fans wasn't working. If you have the same problem, I have one fan that works! |

Hello, Thank you for the input! I went out there today and to start with I checked the coolant, which was quite low so I topped it right up ! thought this was it but then I disconnected the brown temp sensor plug (thankyou 306xsi) and waited for the fans but the did not come on slow speed they only came on fast speed. So I ran the car up to temp and Stan you are correct slow speed is not working at 97c so am just relying on my reserve chute at the moment I So would where would be the best place to start checking what is wrong ? You said it may be the fan should I just check if it has power going to it when I unplug the brown temp sensor ? Cheeersss ________________________________________ New owner of a Moonstone 6 ! |

Hazz - When you pulled the brown sensor plug off and you say the "fans" came on full speed, are you sure both came on or just one?________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |
