How can I tell if my beam tube is suitable for a rebuild or is Donald ducked?
How can I tell if the tube is out of shape where the bearings sit, or is it just a judgment call?

Do the outer seals slide on and off by hand? Also check for dimples on the outside and inside of the tube. Failing that measure it

better still, take the outer bearings out to make sure they're not covering a bodged previous rebuild

Well I didn't know how precise it needed to be, obviously if it looks out of shape it's knackered, didn't know if small amounts not clearly visible to the eye would affect bearing life

Unsure

not necessarily! i have 2 tubes here which i thought were perfect. good outer bearings both sides, but when i removed them ready to get tubes shotblasted and powdercoated, i found that the outer bearings had been fitted into a tube which had previously had bearing failure, and had worn into the tube.

fit for scrap only Thumbs down
