I've seen various people talking about using these, but nobody has really reviewed them on here. I know the dry grip is awesome, what are they like in the wet and do they cope with standing water well? The look on the tread would suggest that they dont? Also what sort of milage do you get out of a set, I'm going to be using mine on the track mainly but some miles on the road.

I may just take the plunge and go for them, get some heat in them and I'll be fine Smile

Maybe they are good in the wet with heat in them but maybe not so good when cold on a uk road. I'd investigate further.

I'm reading nothing but good and I have read about 100 reviews now! The only thing is people say that they only get 10k out of them on the front, but that was with a few track days thrown in so I can't grumble at that! Nobody has said that they have struggled to warm up, though they do need ten minutes driving to get enough heat to throw them about. The main issues that people have brought up are that they are uncomfortable and a bit loud. I'm going to be running on solid mounts and no sound deadening, I'm already prepared for loud and uncomfortable Smile

The one thing that is scaring the living daylights out of me is buying 4 tyres in one go. £495 fitted! Ouch, right in the pocket. I haven't had to buy all four in one go for a while and when I did last time on my 205 it was £210 for 4! I loved how cheap PE2's were

495 where are you looking? On camskill they are 375 in 55 profile. Anyone know the wear rate of these? I assume around 12k all road driving? These look the next best thing to pe2s

425 I saw on Black Circles fitted, but that is in 205/45/16. I went to the garage and they can't even get them for less than 470!

Having to get heat into a road tyre basically suggests to me that it's a dry weather only tyre. I'd rather have something that was average all-round than something that excels in the dry and needs heat to be okay on our wet, cold roads. Unless you're prepared to drive slowly in the wet

I am thinking of getting these and then just chucking the cyclones back on for a few months in the winter, they have about 5mm of tread all round so enough for a good few winters, since I hardly drive it anyways. Plan sorted me thinks. Just need to get my cyclones refurbished maybe, they are blistering and looking a bit worse for wear

I always thought that R888's were track only tyres until recently, what are they like on the road aswell?

Makes interesting reading this:
evo2010
2012

Basically AD08 AMAZING in the dry, Bumming ever tyre they tested.
Not amazing in the wet (But still in the company of the best tryes available dont forget, They will be way better than t1r's)

PS3's seem the best all round weather tyre for our tyre sizes in 16 or 17 though

I'm going for ad08s myself as said previously as dry is where its ad and i dont drive like a spaz in the rain,

You might after using ad08s in the wet! Whistle

2010 test ... 'While excelling in the dry, the Yokos were the most likely to aquaplane (bar the budget Zeetex HP103) in a straight line, and so poor in the curved aquaplaning test they only managed 54% of the speed of the test winning Uniroyal Rainsport.'

The 6 rarely has problems with grip in the dry but does benefit from a tyre that can grip on a cold wet morning!
Its not like we get Summer anymore Thumbs down

The miss leading thinga bout the tets though is that its up against what are essentially the 10 best tyres and a budget.
Realistically very few of the above tyres are available in 16" other than the AD08 and RS2.
The AD08 will perform better in the wet than probably all of the middle of the road hankook etc in this size.

Further to that they used wider tyres, Which are more susceptable to aquaplaning anyway. (Slightly)

Doesnt worry me in the slightest tbh.

Well I'm not suprised that the best rain tyre on the road beat a tyre that isn't designed for the wet by 50% That tyre is going at 100% of what it is designed for while I will only be using the car on the road in the winter very little, I assume that the R888's are going to fall into the same issue as the AD08 since they are basically the same tyre but without even a full groove so will be worse than the AD08.

As above.
The only bit to walk away with in a comparison of that tyre vs a bunch of nomal summer tyres is that it basically canned all of them in the dry as expected,

The aquaplaning is a comparison against 9 other standard all weather/designed for rain and dry weather tyres.

Its loss against them should be expected surely?

This guy is using AD08s in the rain and they seem to hold up ok.
