Just seen this old guy pass by as I was taking the exhaust of my car, he came over to have a chat as he always does and he told me that his son went to go to work this morning and got in the car started it and made hell of a noise, he got out and had a look under and some bugger had pinched his cat converter, just unbolted the clamps either side of the unit and left the rest of the exhaust hanging. He couldn't tell me what make of car his son owned but I said to him I assume the cats are expensive new on those cars and someone didn't want to buy a new one. He said that's the thing, apparently there were a few cars with missing converters in that area this morning. Not sure where the lad lives exactly but it's just over the welsh border somewhere.

What is the scrap value on these?

The scrap value is really high at the moment. Although it is usually vans/4x4s that get them nicked as they are easier to get to.

All the sainsbury's vans got done at the local one. Now, they all have a big sticker on the back saying they have a cat lock on them. Basically just a clamp around the cat with a chain bolted to the body which is silly if you ask me because if they are willing to cut your exhaust apart to nick your cat, they will happily cut a tiny little chain!

What is the scrap value on these? (As I want to weigh in the one I pinched off the car in question last night, and was wondering how much I was in for...)

LOL After still trying to take the exhaust off mine (each section has been welded for some reason) I don't think the labour vs profit would be of much use.

I didn't realise they fetched as much as some have said so far, is it the wrong time to say I have a few lying around to scrap at the moment then?Smile
