Im not 100% mate as ive never really dealt with aftermarket ecus. Im sure there must be a spare pin so to speak that your mapping guy can program to give a flow rate reading?

IIRC, on the mechanical injection derv 406s, you can also have this TC so there must be a flow sensor on it somewhere for it to work so i will see if there is anyway i adapt it to work on a gti engine or if there is anywhere else i can take the data from.

I will ask when I eventually get it done, thanks.

Right me and another guy on OC have now got this Installed and fully working in our cars. You will need to butcher a spare loom for a pin and wire to put Into the ECU plug.
The only thing that isn't quite right is the distance till empty. It's telling us both that with a quarter of a tank, we still have almost 300 miles left! We did leave a wire out from the low fuel bulb on the dials because when it comes on, the display stops reading distance to empty. I reckon it needs this to sort of calibrate so will be trying it later this eve hopefully.

Oh and instantaneous mpg is fun. Got 7mpg with my foot on the floor Sad

I guess its working from the resistance being read by the fuel gauge and is calibrated for a 406 fuel tank, which is 10 litres larger.

Possible however im pretty sure the estate tank is a different capacity yet the TC is the same part number for both estate and saloon.
Will work it out at some point anyway! It might just need running a full tank from full to orange light to calibrate.....hopefully!

Ok, makes sense, pin 5 is not used in the normal cable loom.

errr i didnt. The fuel left is still wrong. its going the wrong way round. Reads 400ish on a empty tank and down to 100 on a full one. Need to work out some electrical hokey pokey with it!

Hi Niall,

I am watching this thread with curiosity, are you able to do a guide that I could follow?

Also, this may be a dumb question, but what/where did you get the clock surround from? it is bulging out right?

Cheers, Andy

I made the surround my self so its custom. Yes its bulging out probably by about 1cm. if you dont do it this way, the unit is too deep and hits the heater box.

There is a guide over on 306OC for fitting one to a HDi. Its the same except for the flow rate pin which you need to add in your self. That was probably the hardest part, getting the ECU plug apart!!!
When i get a spare half hour, ill write up a guide on fitting it in a gti including how to make the stalk Smile

Guide

Be careful when buying the Unit. They all look identical but some are in metric measurements and some are literally just a clock.
