As previously discussed in a separate thread, I'm looking for decent tyres. Due to the overwhelming recommendations, I'm keen to get Michelin PE2s in 195/55-15.

However, while still listed as stock in this size on a couple of tyre websites, those that do state "out of stock" and "on back-order".

Hmmmmmm...so...

I went to the Michelin UK website, where PE2s are listed as available in 14" to 18". Good.

Then I used the tyre widget. The only recommendations in that size are that Energy Saver + or the Alpin, a winter tyre. Uh-oh.

http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/car-tyres/#type=type_3&width=195&ratio=55&radial=15&load=85&speed=v

Then go to the PE2 page, and they are NOT LISTED in 195/55-15. They are available in 195/50 and 195/45.

http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-pilot-exalto-pe2#tab-tyres-sizes

Unless anyone has some better ideas, I'd have to say they are NLA in that size.

And I'm not putting Energy Savers on my car. The low rolling resistance tyres are a trade off with wet grip, I'd rather use a bit more petrol and know I've got good grip in the 5 1/2 days per week it rains here. And they just aren't a sporty tyre. When I get a Vauxhall Zafira smelling of baby-puke and soiled nappies I might consider them.

So it is looking like BF Goodrich, Continental or the like.

And no, I'm not going for 50-profile tyres. It makes the car lower geared, uses more fuel, the speedo is out, which also means the speedo says it is covering more miles than it actually is, and it looks wrong.

I agree - the Dunlop SP Fast Response got very good reviews with second and third in two 2012 summer tyre tests.

And the BFG Profiler as an alternative, or perhaps Conti SportContact 5s.

I didn't think they were available in 55's and that's why people that have them got them in 50's

They have been hard to get in 55 for a while now. Final nail maybe?

For me its a massive driver to move to 16s. Far more choice in that size

Energy savers ftmfw. Been running them for two years (albeit on HDi) and love them to bits, think you're wrong about the wet grip fo sho.

SP Sport Maxx are good tyres, had them on a rental so you knows I was testing them to the maxx.. (ba dum tish)

Never studied the efficiency table for classes, but the Energy Saver and PE2 are both a B in wet grip. Not entirely surprising given that i'm sure they have the same tread pattern, just the compound differs.

Different tread pattern, but still classically michelin, a lot less noise, more grip than a budget but less than a PE2.

Anyone make any progress on finding these, Black Circles used to do them 55 quid delivered, now they don't even stock them. I don't want to pay 100 quid a corner to be honest!

30 seconds later found a site that stocks them all. Genius. Whether they actually post them when ordered is another thing Wink

Tried getting PE2's in a 195/55 from Costco (they only stock Michelan and Continental from memory) - was told PE2's are no longer produced in that profile Sad

Got a set of Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response fitted for £325. Not a bad price and the wet and dry grip is good too. Can't comment on wear yet though.

Yeah, I've had a good look into it and spoke to a few distributors and they have stopped making them in tidy sizes. I may shed a tear, hoping to find something to replace them

I wonder why so many top tires end up NFP, with them being good which means sell loads wtf ?

I don't understand why they still do a 205 - 16 but only in 55 profile, normally a sports tyre is lower profile for the handling

I do understand, what sports hatch uses a 16" wheel these days?

Has anyone tried the Yoko Advan Neova AD08 in 195/55R15? (In the summer on the road!)

Or the Dunlop SP Sport 01?
