Hi folks, I need to get some new rubbers on 195/55/15, and this are the only options I have in this f***ing little country:

- TOYO PROXES-T1R - £103
- BRIDGESTONE POTENZA GIII - £97
- KUMHO KU31 - £79
- GOOD YEAR EAGLE GT - £109
- MICHELIN PILOT EXALTO PE2 - £139
- DUNLOP FM 901 - £84

Wich would you choose from this ones? So far, i think i´ll go with the Toyo´s.
And, believe it or not, thats the price for each one!!!
I discarded the Vredes Sportrac 3, too noisy and hard in my opinion, and the Yoko C.Drive 2.
I wanted the Yoko S.Drive, but they don´t bring them in 195/55/15

Opinions please? Big grin

Where did you get that price? My I got 2x 195 50 15 for 108 delivered from camskill

And don't get the t1r they are horrible. Especially in the wet.

What´s your opinion on the Khumos´s KU31? I read a lot of real good reviews on them, says it´s even better than the Toyo TR1´s. Not as good as the PE2, but half the price!!!
And the main thing is, this´ll be my first GTI-6, and previously i only owned a 306 XS 90bhp for only 9 months, so you can imagine I wont be pushing hard the car for a long time. Gonna need a whole lot of "quality time" with the car, to get to know him well, before I even start thinking to explore the limts. So maybe I can just start with this Khumo´s, that apparenetly are too good to be true for the value, and once i get the experience and confidence with the car to really push it, I might well think of going for the PE2´s to squeeze the s**t out of it Big grin

What do you think?
Someone tried those?

I might just copy "PE2 /Thread" permanently to my keyboard for these threads.....

In all seriousness they are the best so just buy them.
Tyres are you only contact with the road, And without decent ones theres not much point f**king around with srpings and arbs etc etc.
There arent many ways you can substantially improve braking and cornering/grip with so little extra cost.

I found the Kumho a decent tyre, though they wont last as long as a Michelin, little stiffer sidewalls.

Damn, i need to buy some gti6's and export them to uruguay! Laugh

Tyres seem to be a strange subject, for instance a lot of people on here seem to rave about the uniroyal rainsport 2's, but i have a set and simply can't get on with them.
I also have a set of Pilot Exalto 2's and much prefer these to any other road tyre i've had yet.

I have absolutely no complaint of the Vredestein´s Sportrac 3, except for the noise. They were really very good in dry and even better in wet conditions. Thing is I had them in an XS with 90bhp, this´ll be a whole different "scenario" in the GTI-6. Maybe i´ll go with those again, and see how they handle a couple more crazy pony´s LOL

Budget is really a problem, im paying £10.000 for the car, a bargain huh? Welcome to the 3rd world Thumbs up

So there´s very little left for tyres and s**t.

the ku31 are decent I'd get them based on that price.

You might need to remove it from your keyboard - they are no longer listed in 195/55-15 on Michelin's website.

I think i´ll try the Toyo´s, or stick around with the Vredestein Sportrac 3, very good tyres but noisy. Other option i have is Yoko S.Drive but 205/50/15, how bout this ones?

Exactly, that much. Thing is over here is amazing how expensive everything is! Mainly used cars. I sold my 306 XS Ph1 at £7000.
And, there are only 2 GTI-6 (S16) here in Uruguay.
Don´t know the price there, but here 1 litre of gas is £1.25. Its NUTS!!!

£1.30-1.40 roughly for UL, SUL £1.40+.

I guess taxes there are quite different on cars? Also they are a lot further from the factory than we are!

Welcome to the rest of the world. No longer is the world your oyster for a bag of sand.

In South Africa a budget of £2500 buys you a f**ked up 1985 cortina that you're lucky if it's all one colour and has a working engine. This is the kind of place where an E46 M3 will set you back north of £15k for a dubious example, and a new E class Mercedes AMG costs around £100,000. Crazy

Kumho Ku31 is not a bad tyre, had them on most of the Korean rentals i've had here. They work alright, not the forefront of wet technology but still good enough.

Average, guess around £700, the minimun salary is around £200, and the necesary income to mantain a regular family is around £1100. Things are f**ked up ever here! Taxes are unbelievable!!!

I spent 10 days in Montevideo back in '98, the country was fairly screwed up back then so i can only assume its as bad now. £10,000 for a 306?? Shock
