1997 was a phase 1 over here, but after looking again at the bonnet it's obviously a phase 2, not sure what I was thinking.

Maybe it was just different, clearly I know nothing.

Here in Uruguay, there are no phase I s16 with 6 speeds. Only the 155hp 5 speeds, and there are less than 10 of them i think.
Anyway, i want to put the phase III headlights to it, like em a lot more than this ones.

Yes good idea, I like phase 1 lights, I like phase 3 lights, but phase 2 are just terrible.

Any other changes planned?

Not much, i want to keep it as original as i can. Wanna try to rebuild it all new, with all original parts, maybe forged pistons and conrods, and a couple little things more, but no more than that. Xenon on foglights, a nice stereo and front speaker components, and nothing else i guess.

Nice motor mate, must be quite nice to own 1 of 3...until it comes to buying parts haha.

Pleasure to read your English, better than most English newbies. Laugh

Not so, I had a Nile Blue 1997 Phase 2, Phase 1 was 1996, the only ones sold in 1997 were left overs. Yes

Thanks again for the welcome. About buying parts, prices are not too high, considering there are only 2 in the streets, the thing is there is no stock of a lot of things, so you have to wait 15 days until they bring it from France. I only asked for common parts needed, like timing belt kits, filters, discs and brake pads, and stuff like that, and its not expensive.
Rust, haven´t seen any, maybe if I start removing panels and things, some must be hidden somewhere. But although it will be the only car at home, I take it as a long term project. Dont mind using the bus now and then Big grin

Welcome Wave

I have a Facebook friend in Argentina and he owns a Phase 1 GTi-6 surely they aren't called the S16 in one country and the GTI6 in a different country in South America? Dunno

I will have to ask my friend Smile

As far as I know, only in the UK is called GTI 6, even in France is called S16. In Argentina, im in a forum, of 306´s, and they call them GTI´s, but i think it´s S16 there too.
But specs are all exactly the same, except that here is a left drive car Smile
Changes the name according to the country, for example, in Argentina, the Rallye phase III, has a 1.800cc 16v, has A/A, electric windows, fog lights, some have leather, etc. I knew Rallye´s as a GTI 6 without comfort Big grin

I guess it's just different fancy names and specs for the same vehicles but in different specifications.

I have heard that the "Rallye" in other countries has the 1.8 16v engine fitted though. Yes
