Ive been having a few thoughts about wheels this evening as really its almost time to start thinking about some 16s
Mainly as I will need 16s to fit over the brakes.
Soo
Heres a few.
Does anyone know how much MO5 16x7s weigh?
Secondly, the spigot rings you need to fit TD1.2s
How much of an arseache are they really?
With the melting possibilities etc.
Also when they do melt, whats the consequence. is it a you can no longer drive until you get new ones thing?
Thirdly, I believe that turinis are 8.9kg in this size?

To avoid melting get some aluminium ones. Although saying that I think you can get then in direct fit so no rings needed dunno where from though as I'm after some true direct fit wheels

Driving with out spigot rings is in theory the same as using non hub centric spacers, you are counting on the bolts to align the wheel with the hub rather than the wheel sitting on the spigot/ hub

Just buy some Pro Race 1.2s new and get them machined to exactly the right offset, centre bore and PCD.

They'll never need spacers of s**tty spigot rings, they'll be perfectly round and unkerbed, and you can choose exactly the colour you want.

Demon Tweeks will do them for you.

Rimstock is the company that make team dynamic wheels, If you ring them up you can tell them that pcd,offset,counterbore,colour etc

Think i'll just do what you say owain :p Sounds good.
Suppose you cant get the normal ones bored though can you because they are smaller in bore?
So i guess they make them fresh?

Yup, they just order them from the factory with the right dimensions, no dicking about. Costs a little more upfront, but once you've dicked around for weeks trying to find the right spacers and aluminium spigot rings, before paying out to get them refurbed, you'll be glad you did.

I *believe* (and please check), you want the following:

4x108 PCD
65.1mm centre bore
ET15-18 offset

And you want four of them.

Offset depends on width, youll want lower et if wider.

Cool cheers, i guess the et being the same would mean less track, as the wider wheel brings the centre of the alloy closer to the middle of the car? or am i getting confused.
any idea what et would be best coming from cyclones? ie 1 inch wider rim?

ET15 7X16's on mine Thumbs up

205/45 tyres are the best by far Yes

195/45's are gay imo Wink

You don't need a spare, I have a brand new one in a box I'll sell you Thumbs up

I used to just carry around a cyclone as a spare, funnily enough no-one ever nicked that when I left it laying around the paddock on trackdays.

Has anyone got 15's as I've got some hi spec brakes that fit under 15" seedlines as I'm guessing everyone moves to 16's purely for brake clearance

Generally they do, yes, but there are other advantages to the bigger brake kits - my original brakes (even with better pads and fluid) would boil fluid and overheat all over the place, going up to 16s means you can also fit one of the 310mm kits which dissipate heat much better, so you have infinitely better braking and no overheating.

Most people I've known have given up trying to fit better brakes under small wheels and have just gone to 16s.

You also get better handling with 16s due to the smaller sidewalls, cue lots of random debate about that.

do not use any other spacers except hubcentric with the correct length extended bolts

cheap halford shims, spacers that need spigot rings, short bolts and hubcentric adaptors are asking for trouble.

i threw a wheel on the aston expressway at 60mph with a set of 25mm hubcentric adaptors.
its becuase of this i check my wheel nuts daily now, but i figure thats what everyone does on this forum before they get into their car, safety checks Razz

thats why i hate (most) women, driving around in over a tonne of death on wheels and they ask questions like, "my tyres got a bulge in it, thatll be safe on the motorway right?" or "the red lights come on but it still works fine so ive just left it"

do no skimp on something so rudimentraly vital to the cars function

Couldn't agree more, I've knows several people lose a wheel because of crappy wheels or spacers, any savings you initially made over just buying the right wheels is immediately cancelled out as you scrape your way into a ditch on your brake discs.

I think the same with budget tyres now. Yes you save a few quid when you buy them, but you'll kick yourself if you understeer into a tree and forever wonder if you'd have been okay with better rubber.

I have had the pass rear just touch going down dips in gte road with people in the rear of car, but nothing normally Thumbs up
