probably bent valves, caused when refitting the head (intake valve hitting exhaust valve when rotating camshafts) |

new crank pulley? did you rotate any of the cams more than a few degrees just to get the pins in?also, have you driven it a decent distance so the tappets fill up properly. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Crank pulleys slip,so if it has slipped and you time it up using the hole in the pulley it could well be out daipugralio wrote: no they didnt do vale guides ?? The valve guides will probably be ok. As said though, you need to ensure your crank pulley lined up correctly as they do slip. Also, it's very easy to bend the valves on the head refitting, I mean like silly easy. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Cheaper to get a decent engine then sell yours to recoup the cash. If youre looking for one, drop me a pm |

What rat said is true. It's gotta be the easiest and cheapest way. ________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

aaron6 wrote: It's gotta be the easiest and cheapest way. I'm not sure it's easier, it's easier to have a head off than swap a whole engine. Also, the cost of sorting the tapping may end up around £650-£800 depending on what's wrong, versus an engine for say £300. However, when you buy a second hand engine you don't know too much about the internal condition of it, wheras if you know your bottom end is good, it may be worthwhile sorting the head on yours. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Really? Just taken the engine out of the Vile i'm breaking under 3 hours And if you buy an engine like say the one i'm selling with good history etc you shouldnt go too far wrong. |

^^ This. Even if you factor in another belt and tensioner set for the complete replacement engine, I'd still say it's far easier to do a complete change than strip the head, get it fixed and refit at a (most likely) higher cost. Also Ratty's been through enough of these now to have a good idea of a good engine from a bad one and if it's got history with it I'd say it's a no-brain'er. ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

Yes, if you *know* the engine. I would personally fix the head if it were me, but then I would do it myself so save on the labour cost. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Agreed doing a HG isn't the hardest but not the easiest. And for someone like you it's not a massive job but you're a hero Also as we've seen before sometimes the bottom ends fail after having the HG done.Horses for courses pal |
