Thread resurrection!

I should clarify my statement - these tyres were found to be Rain Experts in 50 profile, got the price just by walking through the door. They were advertising 25% off. I too looked for them on the KF website, or rather Rain Sports, I couldn't find them either. Makes sense...

See attached picture for result of 45 mins track work with ambient temperature at 1C, on a Rain Sport 2. As mine are now royally shagged (pun intended) I'm looking at PE2s from Black Circles for £65 fitted when the car is home again. Yay expenditure.

Rainsports are very good, just very soft and will over heat on track very quickly.

Tom do you have a link to Black Circles for PE2? I had a quick look but seems as though they only do Energy Saver. I'm looking at 195/55/R15 tho.

you're all going to through your spanners at me, but.... I got 4 Kumho KU31s for $320 - which out here is a steal.

They take rough roads in 30/35 degree heat. I have a terrible lead foot and little regard for corners. I've pushed them far beyond what a tyre of that price should do and they just take it. Not had any real wear on them for 10,000 kms either. Happy.

Dry grip 6.5/10
wet grip 5.5/10
wear 8/10.

haha. Maybe. but the road is really rough. Any tyre that grips and deals with the s**tty roads wins in my book.

I thought the UKs roads sucked.

Not enough money to have the choice! Yet...

Yessir. 50 profile only I'm afraid - doesn't bother me as they're cheaper, and there's more choice than in 55 profile. Plus a touch shorter gearing never really hurt anyone. The look is a personal thing, mine is lowered so it doesn't look silly.

Rainsports are way too soft to be running long track sessions on, as you found out, you've overheated the tread massively. Limit yourself to shorter sessions if you're running road tyres, especially ones with soft compounds designed for wet weather work.

Yessum. It wasn't just the tyres that couldn't last, hence the bottom end is being rebuilt as we speak...

How should the PE2s stand up to this sort of treatment? I've only ever had ContiSport Contact 2s on a fast car (Five Series), and that never did track work. They seemed to last for ever.

I do remember the Rain Sports being so soft you could mark them with a fingernail when cold.

I know tyres like R888's aren't the cheapest thing out there, but considering they will last several trackdays i reckon they work out much cheaper than road tyres in the long run, not to mention they have much more grip.

If you keep your eyes peeled you can pickup a bargain every now and then, i got four brand spankers for £250 a few years ago including wheels. Cool

I will ask my local Michelin dealer about the pe2 in 55.

I've always used road tyres on track, mostly due it nearly always raining at combe LOL

I'm still looking for 55 profile PE2s but am probably going to end up with Dunlops or Continentals.

Just to update, I finally went for Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response 195/55-15 85V as the reviews looked good and similar placings in several different tests to Continentals. Not much choice for non-energy saving people mover tyres out there so after endless nut-scratching that's what I came up with. There is a new tyre called Dunlop BluResponse which according to the tyre bloke is going to be very good, but is not available in this size for a few months yet.

Very happy with these tyres for road use under all conditions - excellent dry and wet grip, great feedback and very confidence-inspiring. I've not used them on the track.
