So the 6 is off the road now until next year, but when she is back on the road i'm needing to replace the exhaust. I'm currently running a Long Life with a de cat pipe, but i'm thinking about getting either a Sports cat or sticking the cat back on and replace the long life.

So was wondering what everyone else is running on their chargers, do you have the cat on or off? and what exhaust system do you have?

I went from a full genuine to a decat stainless straight through and scorpion. It definately revs quicker at the top of the rev range. I'm putting standard back on now as its getting on my nerves using it every day

Quite. Pretty sure it's now a fail to just not have one, regardless of emissions. No cat = fail, so you better be prepared to get grubby pre-MOT.

nope still based on emission's but i'd love to see a 6/Rallye manage to come in at the reqired leve with a de-cat! I have a full engine rebuild last year the thing is squeaky clean and runs perfect I tried it with a decat,.. but emissions were over so yeah you'll either need someone that's dodgy or swap to cat come MOT time,.. and just wait till the poilice are armed with and emissions tester!
only place a de-cat will be good for is the track! Sad

From the 2012 rules: "A catalytic convertor fitted as original equipment but missing will be a reason for failure".

As you say no chance it'd pass anyway, but I doubt you'd even make it as far as the emissions test.

Have been running with a decat since having the car, So i am tempted to put the cat back on just to save the problem of swapping come mot time.

But worried i won't like the differance when the cat goes back on. But was thinking of a sports cat though.

The police don't have the manpower to bother with things like that, they mainly pull commercial vehicles and that's not just the police it's normally police, road worthiness inspector, dvla, vosa and immigration!
I doubt they will check if its just a normal stop wether it be noise related or not!

Yeah I can't imagine the Police ever giving a crap about emissions, not their problem. As Olly (Ollie?) says, that's a job for VOSA.

The simplest solution is to have a system with a cat for the mot. Put the decat system back on afterwards.
Boosted cars run really badly with a cat installed. Mine wouldn't rev over 4000rpm with the cat system.

Sports cat is the best solution for a road going car IMOThumbs up

I've run a full de-cat,and standard cat and have found my sports cat is the best solution over allSmile

With a de-catted car on the road you need to remember your insurance will be voidYes

According to an insurance assesor I spoke to its one of the first things they look for if there is a hint a car is modified etcThumbs down

I agree with Coskev, sports CAT is the best of both worlds if you want to stay legal in the eyes of insurance and also make MOT's easy. Yes

I've got a sports cat on the road Rallye, sound pretty good.

Any downsides to fitting a decat for a track car (apart from noise)? Don't really want to burn through too many boxes if it's blowing the baffles out!

I've not had a problem with blowing baffles out with my decat over the last three years of having it, i did cause a big crack in the end of my centre box a while ago but that was purely my own fault, i can't help but make it backfire when it's hot. Laugh

The main difference between having a cat and decat is the low down torque vs high end power. When i put the cat back on my daily driver i kept spinning up accidentally for about a week as it seemed much more torquier (if thats a word).

I'm interested to know whether having a sports cat is somewhere in the middle.
