I recently picked up this delightful wee beastie, and I believe it's known on the forum due to me having a print-out of the advert from 2008. I have spoken to Carl of CG Cars who looked after it for a while judging by the receipts in the comprehensive history folder, and was selling it back then in 2008. It has worn the plates S7 XTH (cool number, no?!) and L11 WMS in the past, but is now back on its original W number. So if anyone knows it, don't worry as it's fallen into good hands!
It really is a testament to its previous owners - it was clearly very tidy then and it still is now, albeit rather filthy in my pictures. Couldn't miss the opportunity with the Nimrod though! It's done a few miles since, now being on 150k but still feels pretty tight, as it's had a lot of work done recently. I bought it unseen on the 'bay for silly money (£600!), always a good feeling when you turn up and find the car to be better than you expect. The history is not far off complete.
Shame about the silly xsi backbox but it's brand new so it will probably stay for now. The alcantara on the drivers seat probably hasn't got long left which is a shame, I might look into getting just the squab re-covered as good condition second hand ones don't seem to be around, for understandable reasons...
So all in all I'm really happy with it. I'm a BMW nut at heart (hence the picture below: my pride and joy, one former keeper 535i Sport manual with every invoice since the very first for £30k+), but fancied one of these because I was fed up with lugging so much car around at 16mpg when there's only me in it! I was at uni with a lad a couple of years ago who had a rattly ph2 with a billion miles on and many typically French build quality issues (opening the door to find the card still stuck in the aperture is a particularly vivid memory), but nevertheless I was hooked from the first passenger ride!
Plans for the car; are initially to raise its bottom so that it is a bit more keen to turn in and not plough mid-corner, fix the rear wiper (the relay in the tailgate is suspiciously missing), and try to address the floaty under-damped feeling at the front end at high speed, which in fairness might be due to the funny stance. After that, just to keep clean, use, and enjoy! I intend to keep her shiny side up, but it will certainly be enjoyed. I'm out at Bedford on 1st December for an OPL day (£129 at trackdays.co.uk if anyone is interested / already booked). In the future I may look into some go-faster bits, not sure yet - it currently sucks through a lovely K&N 57i kit which never gets old, but a bit more poke at the very top end might not go amiss.
I intend to stick around and ask questions - looking forward to hearing from her past keepers.
Thanks
