As the missus says "James, you've got a massive goobie head". Thanks. lol.

Brakes, I think are Tarox ones with those DS2500 pads, but I honestly can't remember.

I am hoping that in the future I will turbo it, but at the moment funds are very tight (house stuff!) So the free eaton charger will get slapped on and see what happens. It's a pretty big charger, so should make really good power. Also, got a few bottom end mods which mean 300hp should be achievable.

Well that was a s**tter.

Went out for a drive in the car, 1st gear hard acceleration, changed into 2nd and boom noise of metal everyone, engine conked out and oil all over the floor and won't start again.

your motor didn't take kindly to 8000revs bud, has it thrown a rod?
when you say oil everywhere, is it engine or gear oil. if its gear oil then obviously youve blown the box, engine failing to start may be down to the crank sensor trigger teeth being damaged

It's the box or the diff. Not engine oil.

traffic light racing? what was it a 7500rpm launch i did many of these with a quaife and never blew a gearbox. how many miles has the box done? did you shim the diff up correctly when you fitted it?

Didn't do any shimming of the diff? I was under the impression it was just drop in?

Set off gently in first, then built up to full throttle 8000rpm, then into second and away again.. That's when it went bang!

Nope needs shimming to get it set right otherwise it will move very slightly side to side. took it to lynx to sort out mine as it Fcked my diff bearings in under 200 miles. sounds like you have had a major bearing failure to me which has let your diff do a dance and causing the failure you have now suffered. Gutted for you mate i think I have a spare box you can have for peanuts if its any good to you? I'm sure you're diff will be fine cant say the same for the teeth on you're gears.

once fitted with the correct shims mine never gave me any other issues i didn't think they needed anything other than bearings when fitted but the shims were essential otherwise Nick from lynx told me that I would destroy something.

Balls. That's the first time I have ever seen anything about shimming a Quaife in one of these! What shims will I need to use, and where do they go?

I didn't notice the stock diff to have any kind of shims in it?

I've neve fitted a quaife so wouldn't know but I've also neer heard of having to shim one. I know plate diffs require shimming but thought quaife ones fit completely standard.

When I dropped the stock diff there were no shims, and it all seemed to go in lovely and smooth with nothing required.

I can't even see where you'd have to put shims in? It just seemed to fit into the bearings and into the box?

there's a single 62x55 washer on the rhs under the speedo drive housing against the right hand diff bearing, I've never needed to change from the original one.

they aren't on all boxes, and you can;t just buy one on its own, you have to buy a kit and set the pre load, I think the set of washers are about £20.
