Ok chaps i have 2 issues.
After taking half my car apart for a tidy up, i have come across 2 problems after i rebuilt it all.

firstly the car wont bleed its self (radiator).
Carl chambers had this issue with it when he rebuilt the top end. He used an air pressured pump to get the water circulating, then bled the system.
It was fine before and was fine after, never getting above 110 even in the summer.

Now i have not got this pump but i do now have a black ring round my mouth where i have given the rad a face full of me. I managed to get water squirting out of the top rad bleed point, then closed it off.
Then got water coming through the thermostat, then closed it off. Same again on the top bleep point.

Now the car does not seem to be getting hot but there is alot of steam coming off the rad and its extremly hot. Worried that its going to blow up. Temp gauge seems to be hovering around 70. I dare not try and get it higher for fear of the rad going bang.

Secondly i repainted my fuel rail, now re seating the injectors was not an issue but i cant get the fuel pressure regulator thing to seal. It keeps p**sing fuel. Even had it in a g clamp but it still wont pop in. Any suggestions??
At the momment the g clamp is holding it there while i started the car up top bleed the rad.
The seals on it are fine and i gave them some wd-40 to help ease it in but the bugger just wont seal.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i dismantled a fuel rail and had issues, bought a 2nd hand one off dangti6

water issue.. i'd try getting a tube on the overflow pipe and blowing down it with the cap on still with the other bleed points open. i am pretty sure i did this when stranded at the roadside and nothing would seem to bleed the car, and this worked perfectly (phillipm's advice!)

Good idea. With the engine running yes?? Just a bit scared that the rad will blow up and destroy my beautiful face Smile

is the rad getting hot all over? or just in certain places?

probably just a big air lock somewhere, or something up with thermostat maybe, i'd be checking for air locks though

Sometimes if you have issues I have found filling the top hose with coolant until it starts to come out the radiator. Never had any issues.

That's not a bad shout Carl. Thumbs up

I've never had a problem with bleeding, however most seem to prefer the 'make you're own header tank method' with a plastic bottle.

I did this as I couldn't get much into the rad and nothing was coming out the open bleeders, and it seemed to work fine after filling it this way. Am taking it for another longer drive tomorrow and we'll see.

I must have been really lucky in my time of doing work on '6's...

All of them bled up no problems, although it's always good to know other methods of doing it should you come up against a stubborn one. Smile

Well i ended up putting the red cap on and blowing down the small overflow pipe near the cap with the bleed points open.

Seems fine now.
Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

I agree with this, I've never managed a successful bleed without using the revs of the car.

Some good tips here. Could we add these to the rad change FAQ? Maybe in a "Rad bleeding hints" paragraph.

Drove car 70 miles yesterday and temps were rock steady at 70-80 deg. So it seems it all worked.
