23 and 24 are torsion bars. I'm not sure how they worked but it's quite possible they used a torsion bar that was only maybe 12 inch long on each side. Some F1 cars used small torsion bars instead of coil springs!

you'll need a longer and better angled inlet than the longman off the shelf item for them btw.

And just like the Baja beetles they ran preload adjusters in the middle of the car.

nah it will be fine, I would only buy a fibre glass one so it could be modified, as not sure my rad is low enough anyway, plus not paying the crazy money for the carbon ones!

Can't honestly see them being any better than a standard dome filter really. You also need to consider how loud that is going to be, the induction noise on full chat at 8k rpm is way louder than exhaust noise and you may trip noise meters. I'm going for a carbon intake cover with ducting down to a filter to try and get rid of the noise. Spending £150 on a trackday and been booted off after 3 laps is no fun.

Slightly related (in terms of torsion bars in F1 cars), Caterham have a very brief (and rather s**t) video on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKt39DhgtX8&feature=g-all-u

hmmm I disagree, the amount of cold air it will get would be unreal, plus the fast you go the more air it gets, ram air style.

as for noise yes that could be a problem as I am struggling with that anyway on trackdays but then the car will be for racing so the limits ae slighly better so hopefully it would be ok.

There are lots of loud cars out there and Im sure they are louder than they should be?!

Ram air doesn't work like that. You want a small intake with a large airbox behind for ram air.

I meant ram air as in the faster you go the air gets rammed in

Hmmm, not sure that I agree with that Jean Luc.
My understanding of ram air is that you need the maximum surface area you can get to effectively collect more air at speed than the engine can consume, pressure in the airbox should then increase which in turn creates a mild forced induction effect.
The air boxes on various "formula" cars have inlet size restricted in the regulations to limit any available advantageGeek

Cool

That will only work at supersonic speeds, I haven't seen any 306's get close to that yet. Although the amount of development time yours has had, it should be close Big grin

As the edit button is still broken:

At subsonic speeds you want the slow the relative airstream down by allowing it to expand into a large airbox, the reduction in relative velocity leads to an increase in static pressure, obviously you still want an intake large enough not to restrict the engine air consumption, but as small as possible compared to the airbox size to maximise the pressure build.
As you can imagine, that means you need to be doing some pretty serious speeds to actually get it to make a noticable difference as the engine is pulling the air out of the airbox at a fair velocity too. Even with a bloody good system you'll be lucky to get 5% at 3 figure speeds.
