i cant see how undoing the nut will damage a thread?

forget 1/2 tooling, there is too much flex. Get a 3/4 setup and it will come straight off.

An impact gun will do it if its a propper one. a cheap sealey with small compressor wont touch it

when putting the s16 engine a few years ago in my car and removing the old hubnuts it bent the thread on the shaft, with a big 3/4 inch breaker bar and length of cage tubing. so smashed the shaft out, assumed to be dodgy shaft. same thing in opposite side with bent thread doing the same thing. never had the issue using impact gun, had it a third time on silver 6 i broke for spares (had no impact gun handy), so shafts were useless

just saying. would only use an impact gun now anyway. that said i have used a cheap one and it's done it fine but took about 10 goes

can't win em all on forums it seems

When you finally get this off make sure copper slip gets added to the nut to stop this problem occurring again.

Snapon 1/2" Gnu FTW, copper grease wont really stop it, using a torque wrench will.

Welshpug does have a good point regarding the torque wrench. Yes

If these are torqued up to the correct tightness then they shouldn't give too much grief on removal. Wink

Good luck, let us know how you get on...

I can't see you having any issues now you have a scaffold tube to be honest. Wink

My rule of thumb is if a 2 foot breaker bar doesn't shift it without flexing the bar, I give up and borrow an impact gun. I know from past experience that if it's that tight and it's bending a bar then you will either shear the knuckle, or take the skin from your own knuckles when going face first into the floor.

However, I don't think you would shear the knuckle if it was 3/4 drive. No

Despite that though Rikky, I still don't think he would shear a 3/4 drive knuckle...

Not surprised, looks like a wobble extension. LOL

They can't handle as much torque as a normal extension due to the waisted portion. You could use some 3/4" drive socketry for things like this. Yes

Well I decided the french peoce of crap wasn't going to defeat me.

Put socket direct onto bar, heated it up to f**k, scaffold tube and jumped on it.

    Hey presto it's off.

Thanks for offer though smithersThumbs up

Ok move to inner cv thread for more advice.
