Oh cool. How much camber did you go for? I went for camber adjustable top mounts, made a massive difference.
Just cut a hole in the bumper and screw it in?

Between 2 and 3 degrees, I've put the hubs on and looks more, I'll hopefully be able to set it to 2 mm. Do you know where I can get 15mm spacers and wheel studs |

There's a place in West London called Speed Shack that I've heard are pretty good for spacers. Alternatively: http://www.wellspacedout.co.uk/hubcentric-spacers-15mm/4x108-hubcentric-15mm-set-of-4 http://www.jjcraceandrally.com/race/wheel-spacers/hub-buddies-peugeot-citroen-15mm-competition-wheel-spacer-kit-4x108-205-206-saxo-c2-306-309-xsara-ax You're looking for a set of hubcentric spacers in 4x108 pattern with a centre bore of 65.1mm. Try to get ones that bolt in to your hub then give you studs to put the wheel on. I have a set that I run on the road car from Kei Racing that do it but can't seem to find a link. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

We had the car out again for the MSVR Media Day during the week at Brands. Was a great day and good to meet a few of the other teams and competitors. Car ran really well although we need to sort the setup out as it's far from optimal at the moment. During the day we confirmed that there was gearbox fluid leaking from the level plug. Bit of a struggle to get it out as the thread was completely ruined but when we did we found out that the thread in the gearbox cover itself was damaged. Luckily the cover on the spare car was ok so had to swap them over and that should have fixed the leak. Now just power steering fluid left to stop leaking! We also had the car dynoed. Result was 148bhp at the hub so pretty much what I expected. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

Been a while since I updated this, lots of stuff has happened!Testing at Snet went well. The car handled superbly after the geometry was set properly and was a lot of fun to drive. Laptimes were coming along well and we ended on a 2:25.8 high, at which point I stopped as I didn't want to break the car before the race weekend had begun. Qualifying started well, my Dad was slightly down on the testing pace he had and set a fastest laptime of 2:27 before I went out. First 2 laps were low 2:26s and then I shifted into second instead of fourth causing a lot of damage There was a loud tapping sound so we had assumed the valves had hit the pistons. Here's a video from quali, conveniently cut just before the car broke http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Inbyis0HBsc Having decided that there was no point staying to watch the race we loaded the car up and went home to begin stripping things down. We had never touched the engine so it was a bit of an unknown and took a bit of time. At the end of the weekend we had the head off and sent it away to be checked over however it looked ok and there were no marks on the pistons. One thing we did notice was that we could not lock the cams and crank together, they were out of line. As a matter of course we took out the pistons and noticed that the shells on piston 3 were particularly worn, more so than the others that didn't look great in the first place. This looked like it was the cause of the problem, the shells had overheated and caused some damage. I ordered in a load of new parts including: cambelt kit, head gasket, inlet gasket, exhaust gasket, head bolts, solid crank pulley, thermostat, shells, aux belt, Miles gear linkages and 10L of new oil. I heat wrapped the manifold while it was out as well. We rebuilt the engine this weekend and had it running on Sunday for about 15 minutes before the rattle came back. We think the crank itself is damaged however are just checking a few things like the oil pump in case it was damaged when it over-revved or oil not flowing correctly. Few pictures from along the way (all track photos courtesy of JAM Motorsport Photography): Gear linkages: Heat wrapped manifold: ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

That's a p**ser buddy, sorry to hear that.I keep repeating this on here but check the rods as well as the crank when you strip it back down. They go oval very easily if a shell picks up/gets hot. ________________________________________ www.bridgecraftmotorsport.co.uk |

Might explain why the rattle came back, we've seen some markings on the caps to indicate they have got too hot so wouldn't surprise me if the rods are gone as well. Looks like a change of engine is needed then! ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

It's just time really. Pulling the engine out and dropping another in will probably be quicker than taking the head back off and swapping the rods out.________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

But then you have the possibility of getting a crappy engine where as if you do the work on yours you know whats been done and how well its been done too. Speaking from experience. The engine I bought what was guaranteed to be a good engine what wasnt the case from the 1st turn of the key! How you finding your track time so far with the others? ________________________________________ Clicky: click here remove the space between [url & = |

A known engine is always better, agreed. I still think the crank is damaged slightly around piston 3, the shell was too worn for there not to be some damage there. Plus we saw metal flakes in the oil after we rebuilt the car and ran it. Therefore the engine will have to come out to change that. Still makes sense to pick up a spare engine just in case, I'd rather have one sat there waiting than not. I'd like to use the current engine as it means I don't have to get it dynoed again but would be silly to not plan ahead.Track time has been limited so far! Next race is at Rockingham and I'm determined to make that so will see how it goes there. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

New engine is in and already had a quick fire up without water. Rebuilding the rest of the front end tomorrow to have a full test but seems ok so far. Fingers crossed we should be back in action soon!Chris, the brakes with XP8 pads are incredible! I finished the Brembo pads you sold them to me with in under 360 miles on track... ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

Standard rowd compound pads though, just sized for a brembo caliper. Best thing about brembos is it takes like 20 seconds to change them.________________________________________ I'm Si btwNight Blue VW Golf GTD Bianca LBSC Rallye - Track/Road Slag Project Thread Sparkling Silver Mini Cooper D - Super Dooper - (The other half's wheels) |

Nice read - would love to do something like this myself!Too bad about the engine, but glad you got it sorted. I really enjoyed the onboards, especially the quali one. I was surpriced to see how evenly matched your car was to the civic, as I was sure you would have an advantage through the gears being closer together. Best of luck with the racing! ________________________________________ My silver Fox threadMy wanted add |

Hopefully the new engine is fine. The early laps were about 1.5 seconds slower than the end laps.
