Just a "theoretical" question for the more experienced people on here, but to build a decent power yet reliable TB converted engine what bits would be required from top to bottom?

My thoughts are

Rebuilt bottom end with h/duty bearings
Forged rods
Forged high compression pistons with bigger valve cut outs
Standard Pug MLS head gasket
Lightly worked head with uprated cams and bigger valves?
Vernier pullies
Throttle boddies & Inlet & injectors
Propper air filter (not socks)
Aftermarket management.

Is there a definitive list of what works, where to get it from and what sort of power gains you would likely see?

Just thinking out loud at present....Whistle Whistle Thumbs up

Does he have a project build on here? I'm unsure of who Matty is.

Mine's being mapped next week on bodies. I opted for the Sandy Brown/Colin Satchell setup.

Purely for noise if anything.

    To get the 230bhp mark:

Head ported and valves seat cut to 3 angles
    Cams
    Valve spring and retainers.
    Standard valves.
Proper 4 branch manifold with system

    Forged pistons
    Standard rods with arp bolts
    Standard crank balanced
    Lightweight flywheel and front pulley

After that bodies and aftermarket ecu, I have used the plug and play one that goes into the standard loom and has been perfect for me, takes alot of the hassle of rewiring out of the equation

I'm not a cock CosBev, just weighing up my options for the engine in the garage, do i do something fruity with it like above or build it back up to OE with a slight twist, ie pistons and fast road cams and have the standard management tweaked by Chip Wizards (i think thats what they are called)

Due to costs, thats probably more than likely the way i'll go. It's something to have a go at this winter, keep me occupied.

Whats the best sort of cams/piston combo to go for and will standard rods suffice for that? ARP bolts required etc etc?

As above standard rods are strong once balanced and arp bolts are used, with this spec 8000 rpm is your rev limit.

Cam wise I do my own spec cams ground nothing off the shelf as there never a spec that I required.
Piston wise you can get 218 bhp on a standard bottom end but with the age of the engine, the bores of the engine more than likely will be out of tolerance and too big. The problem is you can't get oversized standard pistons.
You can go as cheap as possible and get wossner or I get my own piston made for me to my designs cost a little more but are far superior to the wossner piston

Looking at your list you don't need bigger valves, even if you can get them you won't be held back by the already huge standard valves until you head north of 270bhp and 8,500rpm.
