Hi All,
Bear with me as this is probably a bit silly.

But when you lot replace suspension components do you normally replace the nuts/bolts/washers etc as well?
Ive not changed any suspension stuff before just interior bits and sensors etc where you dont necessarily have to worry about the strength of the parts or they are less exposed to the elements.
So generally do you:

A)Always replace bolts washer and nuts with new ones when changing suspension bits ( for example even if a balljoint pinch bolt looks fine you still replace with new)

b )Only ever replace ones that have a bit of rust

if i buy a new part and it's got new bolts with it, i use them regardless. technically a lot of stuff is Nyloc nuts so you wouldn't reuse them anyway but i've seen countless people do it without any problems. choices i guess

i've reused suspension pinch bolts and even nylocs without problems on my own cars. should you do it? not really. i wouldn't do it on someone elses car i was fixing

Didnt think about nylocs Doh
Only pain in the ass is a few things I have came without bolts so I've had to get them separate.
I assume that the big front wishbone one wouldnt need to be replaced though? The one that goes through the frontmost bush and subframe?

if you buy a new bush you might get the bolts though, so you might not "need" to do it but why not use the new bolts? you've paid for 'em!

but if you haven't bought new parts i'd re-use old ones. don't thnk they are a nyloc anyway either

As Ricky said, you should do it yes but you would probably get away without.

thing is if you are going to replace the front wishbone bolt, you may aswell replace the square piece or metal with the hole with the threads in that it screws into.

Wishbone bush to subframe x 2

And I assume thats it.

No, you must fit new numberplate bolts and those little plastic cap things on the wipers too, or the wheels will fall off.

I've got new bolts for everything, but I am replacing subframe, wishbones, struts etc and it is easier to deal with nice new stuff than knackered rusty old stuff, and new bolts look better with shiny new parts.

The Haynes manual actually lists the nuts/bolts you should replace.

Your ball joints should come with new bolts anyway, pinch bolts will be fine to use again provided they are in good useable condition. I used the 6 new retaining bolts that came with the ball joints, reused the old washers, and reused the pinch bolt

Just use your common sense really, if a bolt/nut is damaged, rusted to fook, replace....its its in fine useable condition i wouldnt worry too much, id be far more concerned about getting the torque values right to ensure it doesnt fall apart whilst driving it off your drive Smile

a lot of bolts used on the mk3 mondeos suspension components are stretch bolts and they recommend changing them every time, I bet loads of folk don't know that and don't change them though and have no issues.

Mondeo's attract very pikey owners - so I think you may be correct.

They also endanger lives on motorways at high speed and don't recycle.

Now I know 2 of those will be on the money. What's it guna be? You speeding tree hugger.

I replaced all of mine purely because it's relatively little money (but a surprising amount of hassle) compared with the cost of the new suspension. The main problem is that they're all high-tensile 10.9 bolts, which means they can take an awful lot of torque.

Nothing to say they haven't been over-tightened in the past (I'm guilty of this too) so you don't really know what condition they're in. There could easily be cracks under the rust you can't see.

Nyloc nuts should always be replaced, especially close to the brakes the nylon quickly becomes useless.

    Shiny.
