Well theres good and bad news....

So, i got the car there safe and sound this morning to meet Steve and Steve at Track n Road. They fell about in fits of laughter at some of the bodges and generally slated it for a bit then got on with it.
He started with doing all the cold idle and idle which took a fair bit of time to get right then got onto the actual driving stuff (meanwhile, i was demoted to tea boy for everyone Tongue ). Doing one run, i generally thought the car had gone bang when a boost hose popped off lol

Anyway, 2pm came along and the car should of been done by now but still no so me and Sam went off to find somewhere for food and drink. p**sed off a BMW driver at the Tescos then buggered off back to TnR to be greeted with bad news.
Firstly, at 70% injector duty cycle, the pump just couldn't provide any more fuel which is odd but is pointing towards a dodgy pump which makes sense as sometimes when it was standard, it did have days of being rather sluggish.
Secondly, it was only making 3 psi of boost which was odd because he was expecting 6-7 psi. At first, i didn't know why this was until i stopped at the services on the way home and found my rather home brew boost take off plate is chronically leaking boost.

The outcome of this......189bhp Sad

Good news is though, the graph is great with a lovely smooth curve (will scan and upload later) and the car has loads more torque. Drove the 40 mile drive home messing about and its brilliant to drive.

So overall, not the result i wanted but a good result none the less. The car didn't go bang and they both commented on how smooth the engine is which is nice.
Next job is a new pump and rising rate fuel pressure regulator and a new charger plate then back for remapping. I was after 210bhp but he reckons if the pump was fine and it made the correct boost, it would of easily of made 230bhp

Just uploading some videos now.

Exactly. Overall I'm happy and they were impressed with the engine which i liked as i always seem to doubt my own abilities when doing these things.
Just going to enjoy it for now then worry about getting it fixed later on.

s**t Sad that's a p**ser Niall.

How's your takeoff plate sealed on? I had no joy with the O.E metal gasket, ended up making myself one out of rubber.
What's the rising rate pressure reg about? What's up with the original one?

Al

Bit of a disappointment there then Sad. When you've sorted the issues (and some of the other bodges they laughed at lol) will it be another £500 charge to map it again?

Out of interest how comes you are looking at changing the FPR? I would have thought the standard one would be ok? Unsure

DO you think the injectors will be ok for where you want to get to?

Nah. It took them 6 hours to map it yesterday but to do the changes will only be about an hour, 2 max

They recommend a new FPR. Injectors should be good for about 300bhp so yeah, should easily be fine!

There's nowt wrong with the metal gasket but your takeoff needs to be perfectly flat. Mine was fabricated like yours and warped slightly so the rubber seal meant I didn't have to machine it.

Im making a new plate soon anyway as mine is quite a bodge and lets the engine down a bit but for now, i may put some sealer around it just to keep the blowing noise down lol

Get it sorted properly buddy, you'll curse yourself if it lets you down again. Like I say, I got some 3mm ish rubber sheet and cut myself a gasket, works a treat.

No that was me! LOL

In my defence, I always use hose until I've sussed the breather system. I had 3 or 4 different breather set ups on my charged car before I was happy Wink

Haha tbh that's what home engineering is all about IMO. As silly as it was, I thought the idea of a placemat gasket was a very good one although I don't think the old girl would be too happy with me stealing one lol.
Rubber ordered so can get that made up one evening and hopefully get somewhat closer to the 5psi I'm aiming for.
