Any ideas? Thought it might be the fuel pump based on the noise.

The Rallye has seemed down on power since the heater matrix pipe popped off. The fuel pump also makes an unusual groaning noise in the morning when it primes for the first time (i.e. first time I start the car that day).Any ideas? Thought it might be the fuel pump based on the noise. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

Hmmm, yea. It got to about 108c before I shut it off when the hose popped off, stop light wasn't on.It's going into the garage tomorrow anyway to investigate a small power steering fluid leak so will ask them to have a look at the head as well. They reattached the hose so they know the situation. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

108oC isn't a dangerous temperature stage 1 fans are 97oC so i wouldn't say it was anywhere near hot enough to warp the head unless however it was running for long with no water ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

One thing i think you need to remember is that if coolant is coming out, air is going in and if the thermostat housing gets empty the temp sensor cant get an accurate reading because there wouldnt be any coolant to measure the temp of. |

Mine reached a high temperature once, for some reason the fan didn't kick in it reached right up to the red line before i noticed and drove off to cool it down, never had that problem since. No stop light for me. ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

Cheers all. The garage are confident that it isn't the headgasket, tempted to get it in writing from them so that if anything happens soon-ish I might be protected (if that makes sense). They've got the car until Monday to have a look over and find the issue. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

Dan my fuel filter was also done 3k ago, looks shagged. Genuine pig filter going on mine. Also if it's down on power it's worth checking the timing is still together, locknut up at bottom end and check the cams. I have a feeling mine was slightly out, and bottom pully had slipped round slightly. I know that your linking it to the heater pipe but you might have only just noticed it since its happened. |

Garage says there's nothing wrong with the performance of the engine, diagnostics and a general inspection have come up ok. The only thing that they've found is that the throttle cable was a bit loose so wasn't giving full travel. The aux belt tensioner is also very worn so they're replacing that. Roughly how much would people expect that to cost? They've given me a quote of £200 all in and worse case in terms of labour? Not too keen on doing it myself, I like the road car to be looked after properly and I don't really have time. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

The fact that you weren't getting full throttle travel will have had something to do with why it felt sluggish. As for changing the aux belt tensioner, I would say the part probably costs around £50, so with that in mind I wouldn't want to be paying anymore than £60-70 to have it fitted. It's fiddly, but not hard at all. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

They've quoted me £120 assuming the install is reasonably straight forward so sounds about right.________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

Is that for the part and labour then? ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

It's not that bad to do really, just a bit of patience with a 13mm (preferably ratchet) spanner. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |
