well, i've been suitably sensible and tried to sell the rallye. but turned down 2-3 offers as the car owes me way more and there's no point selling it for so little. so... gave the rallye and my daily saxo a quick clean after both of them being filthy..

I had to have a bit of a think as to the future of the Rallye. and spoken to a mate who will take it into his workshop when a space opens up in the summer.

he does great work specializing almost entirely in VW golfs. the rallye will be stripped down to its birthday suit. longevity is the aim of the game.

-engine, fuel tank, axles, glass and interior out.
-all cack ground off, rust cut out and weld new steel in.
-stone chip and paint underside.
-crumpled front wings coming off to make sure the arches are solid.

as it is a VW specialist, we are putting some thought into the engine bay, and mapping out a layout for a smoothed engine bay and partial wire tuck, seam welding where possible.

other than for clean cosmetic reasons, the aim of smoothing the bay is to eliminate pooling areas where water can sit and cause rust.

-washer bottle and ecu will be relocated behind the dash board area. leaving the arches clear.
-battery will be moved into the boot and battery tray will be cut down into a less obtrusive shape.
-all wires hidden away.

-coolant expansion tank will also be hidden.

the interior will be receiving some surgery as the cage will be getting cut out and the exhaust tunnel will have a section cut out and seat bars welded in like so:

i will then be able to fit my half leather recaro recliners on standard universal sliders, improving the driving position over the current mounting position (its a squeeze), as well as allowing easy fitment of bucket seats should i want them in future.

the fuel lines will also be replaced with braided lines and run either under the car or inside.
and the exhaust replaced with a standard system and aftermarket manifold, partly due to a rotten midsection and to reduce noise.

the body work will be last to sort before it leaves and heads to the paint shop. various pannels will be having dents removed and panels replaced. and aerial holes and rear wiper arm etc welded up and smoothed.

large plans but with a steady flow of money and months ahead i dont have to tackle the horrid jobs myself Smile

i had thought about 16v'ing it as i have a saxo at my disposal... but the saxo feels gutless compaired to the 8v currently in situ.

took this for a quick blast down the back lanes today, i'd forgotten how big a smile it puts on my face.

been hunting for some new front wings for this and the earlier ones without side repeater holes are easier to get hold of and would look better,

will i need them to pass a mot? will the tester know it ever had them?

yea, ive got them in the headlamps obviously, just wasn't sure what year they came in as a mot pass.

will just have to keep some cash aside and get the panels with the side repeater hole when i see some in stock somewhere.

so, i had a day free and the sun was shining so i thought i'd spend it getting some jobs done on the pug.

starting with taking the carpets back out, and just as well as this is what i found:

looks like i still have a leak from somewhere...

all cleaned up though for now Smile

i then decided to get the dash out - a job ive been putting off all winter- so i could remove the last of the soundproofing and make way for the dash from my gti shell.

i then removed the heater unit and pulled the last of the heavy sound deadening off.

saved a lot of weight with all this s*ite out the car. so seriously thinking about hollowing out the dash to save weight and finding a heated windscreen.

...i got a bit carried away at this point and started cutting out the roll cage as i was never happy with it. took a while but i got there and just in time as the metal underneath the mounts was in a bad way.

bye bye roll cage!

dusted some primer over it and hoovered up all the cack and got the car into sum kind of driveable condition. feels so much lighter after all thats out Big grin

correct. shame really, because the guy who put it in (previous owner) is a fantastically talented metal worker and builds extremely rare old cars of exceptional quality and detail.

but for some reason half arses everything when it comes to his own cars. For someone with insane levels of OCD such as myself, i just dont understand it lol it's the kind of thing i loose sleep over.

might have to plan a trip to southampton for that harness bar lol once i decide what the hell im doing with this car lol

paid a trip to jamies place - nice sunny drive in the country, and collected some xs seats and a subframe.

a bit tatty, but i was mostly after a tidy rear bench and some seats to get me through the MOT. and for £20 i couldnt refuse.

but i knew i wasnt going to get the mrs to go in the car as they were so i stripped the covers off and put them in the washing machine for a good clean.

i also decied to give my carpet a proper wash.

came up really well, so i refitted it and some more trim - trying to get some crap out the garage.

proper under bonnet update coming soon Smile

new toys arrived ! thanks to Amin for sourcing the parts.

S1 rallye aluminium inlet manifold, throttle body and reconditioned ICV. just got to do a few adjustments to it and get hold of a new throttle cable and i can fit it Big grin

im almost finished with the power upgrades now with just.

- T.I motorsport 4.2.1 exhaust manifold
- OEM straight through center section
- extend induction kit to a better location and fit a new filter.

still to sort. and finally start stripping down and removing the excess wiring and tidy up the engine bay.

finally starting on getting a heater back in the car too. ive pulled the dashboard out my donor car now so will begin the refit this weekend with a few beers. Big grin
