get an auto bonnet, it has a bulge at the back to clear the carb on an XU auto engine.

spent my evening in the workshop dicking about making a manifold that will fit and have a sensor, so i can put that on tonight after work, and ill be that little bit closer to getting it back on the road again. if i keep it, it will be having a custom system made up though, so its a temporary solution for now.

looking at the last picture its a shame to have to put all the other stuff back in! it looks so clean at the moment. i did clean all the washer bottles and stuff out though and painted up all the odd brackets so should at least look half decent. a nice filter setup and a quick clean of the battery should help. though i might stick the battery in the boot just to clean the bay up a bit more.

still need to get the seats and carpet out again though! damn leak...

progress!

so what ive been up to most the week since being made redundant on monday... got the car back together ready for the loom to be done.
cleaned up the headlamps (genuine valeo items as it turned out!) tidied up the radiator and put the old fans back on (i have some twin fans but think ill need a gti radiator before i can fit them)
and got a lot of the brackets and washer bottles etc back in. also solved the manifold problem as it wouldnt fit properly. but a bit of kicking and swearing and it went on.

i decided to loose the mud flaps while i was at it as i didnt like them

and then after i cured the leak (i hope).. i put some more sound deadening in to make it more driver friendly

carpets back in:

and fitted the recaros i got off minigibbo, a nob to get on the frames but, theyre in! and look brilliant

but.. the end to the day, the car now runs. Colin from Pug Performance came down to sort the loom out for me as it was a mess! the guy worked his magic though and after supllying me with a nice K&N induction kit, i fired her up. idling high and no coolant yet, but, she works! couldnt be happier right now Big grin

yea definately going to keep them in there. they suit the styling right i think. going to put some more thought into the frames though and remove the tilt mechanism as they sit a bit high, ive got them angled on the frames to get the bum and head lower . but it still compromises the driving position a bit.

lol yea interiors definately going the right direction, needs a red gti carpet and stuff but that can wait. this engine seems like its eager to get down the road. so really looking forward to that first drive in it. whether or not it will be the last engine this car sees i dont know yet. id like to upgrade the breaks next and fit some better coils and steels. then it will just be save save save and get enough together to have it stripped down to its birthday suit, full respray and im thinking of a heated windscreen to help make it more useful in british climate. refurb the hardware and refit it all. Smile

if you dont mind popping over then yes please pete, theres the odd other little bit id like you to just double check for me as well please before i go charging down the road and have a nasty surprise.

though i will say, goes like a stabbed rat, but the brakes might need some upgrading!

Have you flushed any new fluid through the brake system? That might help matters.

Yup it's brand new fluid all the way through. He had the master cylinder off tompkins the bay so we bled it all
Through all 4 lines. Lots of manky brown fluid and air bubbles Wink. Brakes are rusted from a month of siting about should get a bit better but their tiny and has drums on the rear.

give the tyres a kick, cant remember which one has the slow puncture. but tyre place can plug it in 5 minutes.

seats need work lol. but it can wait for now. long term wise. needs some seat bars welding in and just sticking the seats on some universal runners and bolting them down. or needs the tilters removing or something. job for another day.

Exactly, for now it runs and it's happy. It must sound pretty good on cam too. How slow was the puncture? Will it get me about a few days without constantly checking it? I'll get em refurbed asap so you can have my steels. Think we need to swap wheel bolts too, pretty sure they are different.
