It'll look tidy blended in but if you are fussy like me it'll still bother you a few months down the line that it still isn't perfect. As above on 99% of cars with blown in panels ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |

Surely the only way for it to look completely uniform and a perfect match all round would be to have a complete respray? In other words, there would have to be some blending in somewhere?Simon - cheers for the reply bud, might have to send you a PM when I'm looking a bit more seriously as you obviously know your way around a compressor & spray gun and your work does look very impressive. |

f**k that, I use a bloody good sprayer and you would never know where to look unless you have a very trained eye. Plus on car that are 12 years old some blowing is expected really. I cant see anyone moaning about the condition of mine and yet thats been blown in on a panel. ________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

Indeed but I would rather it was blended in on the wing than door ? I'd have the whole side done and loose the match under the gutter rubbers, blend the wing and maybe the very rear of rear quarter ? If is blended in on the wing then the bonnet will blendInto the wing aswell as the door. ________________________________________ andrew315rawson@live.co.ukMoonstone phase 7 gti6 My Project thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=119992&page=1 |

With the correct technology, paints can be matched. Then there are other factors such as modern primers and paints being different to the original, even if they are the same sort of shade, inc technique in painting. I agree, a good painter can sort it out well enough, only way of testing if the job has been sorted correctly, is using the same technology again to check the match after painting.White only needs to be lighter or darker in tone/shade, where as colours need a lot more to get the correct shade of that particular colour. Black can be easier to match as thats another shade of light, not a colour. There are so many variables with painting, i would get the whole side sorted, the ripples and dings will get sorted and you know it wont get noticed by your self, as i would looking at the paint in the right kind of light. Piece of mind and all that. ________________________________________ Pug fee`ver,Pick a Bogey, buy a Pug. Black 306 GTI 6 Standard, was 60k mileage, bargain!! Yes there would be blending but if it is on the corner (side/rear or side/roof) where colours look different anyway due to the different angles of panels. And a horizontal match, e.g. under the rubbing strip) is easier due to the curvature of the panels giving different shades than a vertical blow-in or new-painted adjacent panel. And a decent painter can do a proper job - there are a lot of very average-to-poor painters out there, if the number of cars I see around with really bad colour matches between panels is anything to go by. And solid colours i.e. non-metallics are much easier to match than metallics. ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye SOLD |
