Evening,

For years I have been wanting a 205, and recently been looking to buy myself a little Gti for a daily driver to replace my boring diesel 306.

Off to look at one over the weekend, anything to look out for?

And does anyone want to buy a ph3 bianca diesel 306? Ps, its s**t Thumbs up Laugh

There are some really good buyers guides on the 205 forum. I had one as my first car in 1999 and it was a brilliant car to drive, loads of fun on b-roads.

I had one that would go round the clock on a journey to Newbury. Look out for a low miler one day and a high miler when you view it.

All pretty much the same on a 306, But check for rust at

1. Boot Floor, inside and Out
2. Under the rear seat base's
3. Inner Arch seam under the bonnet both sides
4. Above the rear Qtr Windows
5. Under the front seam that runs under the bulkhead, mind the seller I doubt will like the carpet being moved for that one
6. Front headlight panels

Thats the major areas to check

They don't really compared to other cars of the same era, unfortunately even the newest ones are 20 years old.

I've had about 12 205s in the past 10 years
A fantastic as a revvy 1.6 or mire powerful 1.9 but with a 6 engine they are unbelievable!
miles has pretty much covered all the issues
Rear beams are pretty much the same as the 6 so may require a rebuild
You will be hard pushed to find a good one for less than 1500 and then it'll probably still need work Sad

Agree with peety. Learn where the tachometric relay is buy a spare and leave it in the car. Check heater speeds work and that the seat doesn't twist on its mounts as they are known to break the welds on the seat crossmembers. Watch out for cracks in the rear quarters upper just below the gutter. They all crack but dont buy one with loads of rust. Also upgrade the front callipers to gti6 callipers and discs and the car will stop as well as any set of ap 4 pots. My old car could do endoes with a 406 or 306 master cylinder. Buy one whilst they are still reasonable money... got a good project base with a gti6 lump in it for a grand but its stripped out and a little rough round the edges. Enjoy the go cart handling. Mine still makes me feel 17 every time I drive it... 17 stone that is...

Ps early shells are better than late ones as it appears Peugeot didn't galvanise the later shells or bought s**te steel to build them.

odd question but realistically how much room is there in a 205 for tall people im guessing at 6ft 4 it would be a bit tight

I'm about 6'2/6'3 and I find mine okay. They have plenty of leg room and good pedal spacing, to be honest I think for a big person they are one of the better small hatches especially compared to a 106 etc

Make sure it's a non sunroof one and you'll be fine, sunroof models are a pain for headroom even at 5.11 ish

As said 309's where built cheaply, not cared for as much generally so to find one with allot of rot is very rare

I actually wouldn't mind a slow diesel 306. Had the same one twice whilst having bits done on the '6. Reminded me of the old 106 derv (my first car) and it was good as I knew overtaking was out of the question so I didn't even try, at least in the derv I was a generally sensible driver. LOL
...Clutch felt so hard in the '6 after though Doh

Thats the exact reason why I bought it Harry Yes

Its so pathetic that its pointless even trying to drive "quick". I have just got bored of it, and would be nice to be able to pass slow tractors/lorries/horseboxes/learners if need be.

I have always said though, the best thing about the diesel 306 is it makes my SC 6 feel sooooo much better Devil

I thought it was a myth that any Peugeot is actually galvanized?

I know the paint on earlier shells certainly doesn't seem to suffer with lacquer problems like the later ones but can't say I've noticed any link regarding rust with ones I've seen.

What parts from a 306 can be transplanted to a 205?

Engine, box(?) and brakes yeah, but anything else?

(that would make it worthwhile to gut a good donor motor into a 205 shell?)

I've just picked my non sunroof 205 gti up Big grin bonnet is faded, boot has a spot of rust and wing needs replacing but no other rust whatsoever
