Lol I know mate I see your point, I'm sure they will be better and I'm sure owain is talking from experience so go with the 406 brembos Smile

I would imagine it's a completely different kit as Andy will be using Brembos off a Clio not a 406 Coupe...

Doh

Didn't realise that, thought it was the original 310mm kit for the 406 Brembos.

Owain, Thanks for the info. I didnt say anywhere i needed 310mm kit. I was consulting regarding the effectiveness of 406 Brembos vs. GTI6 brakes.

Yes sorry, I appreciate the thread has gone a little off-topic (on here?! NEVER) but my point was that the 310mm kit is unnecessary and I think you're doing absolutely the right thing with the 406 Brembo route; you just need the Tarox discs. I'm sure SimonJames was selling some recently but they were rusted and used, if you want them to last I'd buy new depending on the price difference.

Plus they'll probably last you a fair few years, so you can whip the whole setup off and sell it again afterwards to some other poor soul who's running 406 Brembos without the squeal Yes

That's exactly what I did, and it worked for me. You can get a very light squeal when braking very gently, but it's more the squeal you get when you have good brakes that are cold, it's not even in the same league as the Brembo noise.

I believe that's the 330mm kit Sam, and I think Paul has now swapped these over to the Super High Boost '6'. Yes

Talking about bigger brakes. My biggest problem is that i cannot import used brake parts since its not legal.
Why not buying a new conversion kit from hi-spec - how good are their calipers?

Hi-Spec are a bit like Marmite, you either love them or hate them. To be honest, I've not come across a person yet who loves them. Wink

I've checked Tar-ox site - i dont see they have rotors for Xantia V6. The closest I've seen is C5 V6.
Are these the same?

I bought mine from a company called MotorsportWorld.co.uk, they were part no 74BH0 which don't seem to be listed anymore, but if you drop them an email they can probably tell you what the official Tarox part number was.

What about tarox conversions?
I see a 305X26mm 6 pot or 10 pot calipers.

How good are tarox calipers?

They have a reasonable reputation, although I can't speak from experience I'm afraid as I have never used them. Wink

I wouldnt want to use a 406 disc, the offset is much lower meaning wheel clearance a bigger issue, they also weigh a chuffing ton.

if youre not in the uk just find someone in your own country to do the discs+bells

305X26mm are tarox discs in their conversion kit. they are lighter.
The issue with them is that they are expensive as hell. Smile

I've always steered clear of people who make 6-, 8- or 10-pot conversions for cars which clearly don't need them, as it seems too much like they're just chasing numbers and trying to sound impressive.

There is absolutely no way a car as light as the 306 needs any more than 4 pistons, and unless you've got a 2-tonne Veyron to slow down from 250mph they're just unnecessary and heavy.

You say it's illegal to import used brakes, any chance of you picking them up from a breaker's yard locally? Or are you simply not allowed to fit used brake parts?

I can pick up used brakes in a breaker's yard, but the number of RS sold here is so low that the chances to get calipers here are very slim. I could buy new calipers, but their price is around 850 pounds. Even if i do buy calipers, i'd still need Ash's kit, which is not manufactured anymore and people dont sell half kits, from what I've seen. Sad

The only way i see for now, is either buy a new kit or go for Tarox rotors and maybe EBC red stuff pads.

I genuinely wouldn't bother with Ash's kit, it doesn't sound like you need it at all. Seeing as you already have the 406 Brembos I'd definitely go for the Tarox rotors and red stuffs as you say Yes

Also, I assume you have braided lines on already?
